i thought id ask if anyone collected things that go up in value?

just got done makeing a data base of the hotwheel collection :

296 Hotwheels spent 352.44 buying them now worth 825.85

some people are diehards with the hotwheels and spend or have cars wrth thousands , im just a person who keeps them , i dont belive ill ever sell them

anyone else that collects the stuff feel guilty its still in the box ? seems sac religous to keep them in the box , they should be enjoyed by a kid .....

keep those things in the box...I still have plenty around here that are in the box and are staying that way until I decide to sell them. I bet I could make alot of money on them too...:D

I have boxes and boxes of baseball/football/basketball cards that I haven't even looked at in 10 years ... ought to be worth something <grin>

wine is a great investment if you know what you are doing and ahve the facilities to store it right.

a $20 or less bottle of wine bought in the early 80s can be worth several hundred dollars, in some cases up to several thousand dollars a bottle if they are all in the original case.

I used to collect baseball and basketball cards. I got kind of frustrated about it, because my dad sold his collection to a dealer for like 25% of what its book value was. Kind of like how car dealerships don't wanna give you the value of your vehicle on a trade in. I guess the only to make money on cards is to sell to private collectors. I probably shouldn't take my Hot Wheels out of the package, but I think they look better displayed out of the package. I might dread ripping my Ferrari Enzo out someday.

Damn, $825? I just had to play with my Hot Wheels / Matchbox cars when I was a kid. Had like 300 of them. The only things I have that might be worth something are the first copy of Macross (comic book). And maybe my limited edition (only like 1,500 made) Todd McFarlane -- Spawn -- action figure. It's autographed and still in both the blister package and the usual cardboard box... Plan to sell it later. Hopefully get some cash!

My 5 year old bro just opened his red Hot Wheels Enzo out of the box a few days ago. I have about 50 hotwheels cars that were all taken out of the box, but kept in a special case. I also have model cars/ bikes, Gundams, Zoids, and a couple Transformers displayed in my room. I have a toy addiction. I want to leave them in their cases, but they look better on display. If I buy 1 eventually I will have most of them. I also have about 600+ Pokemon cards from a couple of years ago and about 300+ Yugio cards. I want to sell the cards but I cant bring my self to do it even though Ill get at least a grand for them.

Im seriously thinking of doing that. If you're lucky it could be a very profitable business. I just dont have the money to buy that stuff and keep up any more. There are just to freakin many. Pokemon cards have been going on for sooooo many years now. I quit with those about 2 or 3 years ago. Ill still pick up a Yugio pac every once in a while, but some places are robbing people cuz they charge like 6 or 7 dollars for 1 pack. Best place to buy is Walmart.

Not bad collections guys. I myself have quite a bit of Pokemon but my two best collections are my uncut sheet from i believe its 1993 with two Shaq rookie cards on there an alonzo mourning card, and a Derek Jeter rookie. oh yeah i forgot to mention its also a misprinted uncut sheet. bought it for $500 now worth $5000. my other collection is I have every single Dr. Suess book in mint condition a couple are a little worn though. If I just hold on to those ill building up intrest.

I have a couple thousand baseball/basketball cards including some rookie cards of Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Pudge Rodriguez, etc. I also have almost the complete set of Overpower cards (if anyone every played that, I'm missing like 10 of the 250 cards). I would sell my Overpower cards in a second if I thought anyone would buy them, but I don't think anyone plays that anymore.

finally a collections thread! wOOt! lets see, where to begin. i used to/still collect CCGs, althought i dont play anymore. used to collect magic, star wars, battletech, L5R, Rage, Vampire, Warhammer 40k, and Doomtrooper cards, but i sold my BattleTech and Star wars stuff. i really want to get rid of the magic, DoomTrooper and 40k cards, but no one seems to be buying them anymore. I also collected Transformers, but stopped when i finally found a Jetfire figure. its my prize piece. I also collected/built anime models and somewhat still do, although not as much as i did. i have around 40-50 models from different sets in my room on a shelf. I also collected baseball cards, which arent worth anything anymore really. then theres the comic books, of which i have some nice Spiderman Special Editions. And I also have a small Warhammer 40k army which i might be selling too. The game is fun, but very expensive and time consuming. If anyone is interested in the cards or warhammer stuff, let me know. college=expensive and im in need of cash.

Not that i know a whole deal about it, since my father is the real collector, but i do know that there is an optimum temperature (which is slightly lower than room temp), so a basement is ideal.

most important are the racks, since the bottles must be stored horizontally (i think to prevent evaporation).

i am sure humidity levels are somewhat important as well, as the cork cant get too dry or too moist. ( a dehumidifier is usually used if it is a basement storage)

i hear it is a good idea to put gravel on the floor of the storage area so that an accidental dropping wont necessarily mean breakage.

as far as wines to collect, go for french bordeaux, and it pays to stick with the top few chateaus.

Not all wines have to be stored horizontally, there is one I know of that you store upright...but it's also one that goes bad if kept too long. I've considered collecting wine as well, I probably will later in life (later = after I turn 21 in a year)

I know one reason is the sediment. if you store it a certain way it will go towards that end. thats how champagne is made too, they let it sit a while on its side so alll the sediment collets and then they filter it till its pretty clear and sediment free.

I have a few hundred base ball cards. Some are pretty good. None are older then 15 years old, so no real money.

I also by guns. They are good, cause when you get broke you can pawn them for cash. And you can pop a cap in some ones a$$ if you have too.

I think I could only collect whine in my stomach. mmmmm whine.....

I sorta collect comics, have some older ones from 60's 70's and such and some old dell Comic Out of this World, I think it is, from like I wanna say 1951 that I got when I uh...got a long box full of "99 cent" books for $25, I think i've seen it for like 900 dollars or so, could be way wrong.

GI Joe's rock too, and the red Camaro from M.A.S.K. with the gullwing doors. I miss both of those cartoons...

edit: certain firearms can collect value too, I have an old Russian SKS built in 1951, I think it's still rising in value, not sure though...

i used to collect baseball/basketball/football cards. i have like 100 or so michael jordan cards, because when i was little i figured that theyd be worth alot, but now that hes retired a million times. and a Ken Griffey Jr. signed baseball $100 or so bucks, Sammy sosa rookie lol $6.00(last time i checked). If i can ever get a decent sum of money for this crap, it would be so gone.

My bro has the original Hulk comic, i think, or it might be super man not sure

If you have the money and the knowledge, property is an excellent way to make a hell of alot of money. My uncle has been doing it for years and he is loaded b/c of it. You just buy some property you think will be sought after in a couple years, then sit on it for like 10 years, and sell for a 200-300% profit. I also like the wine idea, too bad Im not 21 yet.
