What I mean by that is when we took down Saddam, we brought political instability to that area....therefore making that country vulnerable. That gave the radicals a chance to start all kinds of mayhem as you can see.
No, what we brought was civil instability with militias and terror groups duking it out for (yes) political control of their section of Iraq. But my question is this, did Iraq during the Reign of Terror of Saddam, really ever have political and civil stability? Saddam was so paranoid that he was going to be bumped off that he had numerous body doubles and hunted down, killed and tortured anyone that dissented. He also wagged war against minorities of the country with not only the use of chemical and biological weapons, but with fear and terror with his Republican Guard troops and Saddam’s Fedayeen. We also saw how easily that the Shiite south irrupted into uprising that reached all the way north to Saddam City as soon as GHW Bush encouraged Regime change and the people of Iraq forcing Saddam out of Iraq, after the Gulf War. We also saw the Kurds engage the Iraqi Army in the North in bloody violence. Saddam's family created this instability with their tactics to remain in control of the country. Did we help it by creating a power vacuum? Probably, but with the Sunni Awakening and the work with Shiite and Kurdish groups true stability is being formed in Iraq.

Ok...thanks for clearing that up. That makes more sense.

Did it ever have civil stability...maybe. When saddam was in power, there were no daily roadside bombings or militia and terror groups fighting each other for power. I don't know, that question is difficult to answer...it really all depends how one would perceive "stability" and "instability".

I am not necessarily talking about veterans and trying to compensate for a political view that you hold dearly, I am talking about general giving like that to the poor, the orphans and the widows? I suspect (and want to be proved wrong) that the people who use this level of argument, themselves do not practice what they employ as a counter argument. This sparked my interest ever since someone in an Abortion thread in this forum used that argument to hopefully shut me up, which didnt work.
Respect to you for "walking the talk".

I go out of my way to help out anyone I know directly - anyone who falls in the range from acquaintance to family. I will give assistance but not money to strangers.

I don't give money to any organizations. In my opinion, a safety net and certain social programs are best managed in a centralized fashion by the state, and I am willing to pay higher state and Federal taxes to support them. When I say safety net, I mean pragmatic programs, not the type of stuff the Democrats always try to implement.
