This may be wrong, but wouldn't the shape and size and all that of the intake manifold itself have a lot of influence on sound. If what s13sr20chris said is right, which it seems reasonable, then a Honda intake, which is more a straight shot if they are all like my brother's accord, would surely allow more sound transfer than the almost "c" shaped intake runners of the Nissan's if they are all like my 240 with a KA24DE. The sound would have to curve around almost 180 degrees causing many of the sound waves to be bounced around and lost in the intake runner. Also since the intake tube itself crosses completely across the engine bay some more sound could be lost. Personnally, I think my 240 at full throttle sounds way awesome. A car should sound powerful not weak and annoying. And more displacement does make a car louder, more displacement= more air+more fuel= bigger and deeper sound. The human ear is more receptive of higher freaquency sound than lower also.
