im haveing a problem and i cant find any info on it... or maybee im just not looking in the right place. but anyways... i have a 1990 240sx with a RB25DET in it. the problem im haveing is wierd noise... the only whay i can describe it is, if you hold a strip of falt metal lightly in your hand and lett it drag across the ground... thats what it sounds like. i know its a wierd way to desribe it... and you may not know what im talking aout, but its comeing from under my car.... or i think it is. the only time it happens is when my car is moveing. ive looked undrneeth and i cant find anything. if you guys have ANY info on what this culd be please let me know becuse im relly lost on this.

thanks in advance.

First things to come to mind would be dragging brakes (or something stuck in them, bent backing plate etc.) or possibly something rubbing on your driveshaft.

Maybe?

see... i just got my breaks checked out... and they said everything was fine, except my rear wich i had replaced. im thinking it may be the driveshaft but from what i can see nothing is rubbing... but i may be pulling it out soon to check it out.

thanks

i dont know anything about that... but its in the transmission right? i think that my buddy who does work on Z's is gonna help me pull the engine and take it apart, and see exactly whats going on. i also think i have a boost leak thats getting worse... sputtering from the engine when you rev it... so that shuld be fun... more money... yeay. think i may end up tearing it down and replaceing alot of the seals this time... think it wuld probly be best. the engine is gonna be brand new soon lol.

thanks for the help guys let me know if anything else comes to mind.

Here's a recent thread discussing the noise a failed TOB makes and when it happens. Might help.

ok... i read that the internals are the same for 300zx as the RB transmission...zerothread?id=140997

but can any of you guys verify this? or if you guys know if it wuld be cheaper to buy the replacement parts for the RB transmission or just buy a new one. sorry for so many questions.

thanks again

woooooah horsey. It's only the throwout bearing. The Z32 TOB is the one you want and it should only run you about $10-20. No biggy.

could be that your skyline yolk was bent a little bit out of round (my Z32 was) and it rubs on the thin metal surrounding the transmission. I took my DS out again and pryed it back into place. Hasn't made a peep since. The noise it made was kind of a hollow chiink, chiink, that got faster as I drove faster.

well it just recently started makeing the noise, but yea the it sounds kinda like what you described. but what wuld cause it to bend all of a sudden? and it does get faster as i accelerate, but its most noticeable at low speeds... then your able to hear it very well... just cant tell where exactly its comeing from becuse im driveing.

thanks
