the what on the what?

the coil packs are on top of the spark plugs not the CAS

turn your CAS by manually by hand and listen for your injectors putting fuel into the engine. even though you said your not getting spark (not fuel) try this anyways..if you hear fuel it is still possible your cas is bad since it also controls ignition timing. you can turn the key on and check voltage of the #1 wire and a ground and then the #2 wire and a ground (these wires are the ones furthest on the right)..while you check voltage turn the CAS with your hand and the voltage should fluctuate between 5v and 0.1v

another test you can do to test for spark (even though you say you already know you dont have it) is to unbolt one coilpack from the valve cover but leave it connected to its harness..now pull the spark plug and plug hook it up to the coilpack and now place the tip of the spark plug on a known good ground..now crank the engine over (you will obviously need a buddy to do this) and you should see the spark plug sparking..now like i said you already said you dont have spark but say you do this test to each of your coilpacks and 2 of them spark and 2 dont..that means those 2 coilpacks are bad and obviously your ignitor is good..if none of them spark then most likely your ignitor is bad..it is also a good idea to check continuity of your ignitor before buying another because the problem could be your ECU

im thinking the cas cause i got im good every where else ...nothing coming out of the cas but a signal every where else but the plugs obviously... if the cas is bad that means that you prolly wouldnt get a spark coming out of the coil packs for each plug right?

if your CAS is bad this will not cause your coilpack to not fire. CAS controls piston position/ignition timing but not your coilpacks firing..your coilpack gets its signal from the ignitor..i really dont know why i told you to check the CAS i shouldnt have im sorry I guess it was to make sure that your fuel injectors were indeed injecting fuel (which you can easily here by turning the CAS with the engine off by hand.) the absolute best test for you to do is pull the coilpack and sparkplug and put it to a ground and crank the engine..if that spark plug sparks then that coilpack is good..which ever ones dont then they are obviously bad. if none of them do then it could either be your ignitor or ecu

OMG! Thanks for this post! I have a feeling I am going to need this info yet this week (if not today). I only hope I don't have a bad Ignitor or worse, the ECU.

In case there is a problem, anyone know where I can get a cheap SR20 ECU? I have already located a couple ignitors for around $30.

you should really find out how to test the ignitor for the q45..also check into your ecu now

i got a signal coming out of the ignitor with a test light and with the ecu all you do for that is turn the little screw all the way to the left till it wont turn anymore and then turn it back to the right 7 notches....

are you asking me or telling me about the ecu? i think asking because that isnt right..you turn the key on (and the l.e.d. will stay lit up) and then turn the screw fully clockwise and hold it there for 2 seconds. Then turn it back fully counter clockwise and you should get a series of flashes..if the light doesnt go out then the ecu is bad

its supposed to blink a certain amount of times if the ecu is good..this blinking is known as diagnostic mode. If the light just stays lit and does not blink then your ecu is bad ( but make sure you turn the screw correctly to get it in diagnostic mode becuase if you dont turn it right then the light will just stay lit and you'll think you have a bad ecu when you really may not) so just make sure you are 100% sure you turned it correctly..also make sure the blue ecu plug is tightened down fully and evenly

so the ecu is good? and its plugged in good..and the ignitor is good. check your coilpacks. With the key on disconnect the coil pack harness and check resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2. Resistance should be approximately 1.0
