posted a question on the navigation.com facebook page asking when the 2015 update dvd would be available and got this reply-

Unfortunately, there will be no further map update releases for the 2006 Infiniti M. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for reaching out.

Had anyone else heard this? I guess I'll just have to get the 2014 one & hope it's accuracy lasts as long as my M35X.

If that message came direct from NavTeq, then I would say yes, it's reliable. The latest one available for your year is still 7.9 (2014) and it's still available at the NavTeq website. 2015 maps will come out early next year, but ... IF there is a 2015 disc available for your year - wait until about May - June when they run the yearly sale at $50 off regular price.
I reckon that since the 06-07 models are approaching 10 years old, and they are the ONLY two models that use that particular disc system, maybe they are weighing the cost of producing it each year Vs fewer and fewer M's on the road from those model years. You'll soon know for sure as 2015 is just weeks away.

That's stupid.

It's just a bunch of map data (I work with maps right now in the IT position I'm in)...it's not hard to put the latest maps (since they are already compiling them for other models/medias) on that particular format media.

Wow...I'm actually quite pissed. I travel a lot...this could become an issue in 3-4 years (I think about trading the car in but then like having no debt so I plan to keep this car for a while).

I agree that it's stupid. There is an interstate being built literally miles from my house. However, I would say that choosing which map data gets on the DVD and which map data gets left off (since the DVD has limited space and only main roads) would require human decision making. This wouldn't be true if there was a script/macro programmed for paring out the data already, but it isn't hard to believe that they might be switching to a newer/different method of publishing map data. It's also irritating that I submitted a fix to them 5-7 years ago and it isn't included on the 2014 disc, so apparently NavTeq sucks in general and we should all look cars that use someone else next time. That having been said, to be fair, I work for a manufacturing company that spends at least as much on robots as we do on cars, and the robot manufacturer doesn't provide support for as long as NavTeq has been providing maps. IOW, I don't think it's right, but I do suspect it's typical.

ETA: Keep in mind (re: robot company) that they make and sell the robot that costs as much as a car while navteq presumably only sells or licenses the navigation unit to Infiniti, if even that.

Isnt the 2014 disk nearly the full capacity of a dual layer DVD already? I know it has grown every year already and it was getting pretty close.

I know piracy is not allowed to be talked about and all, but if Navteq truly does discontinue our navigation we need to do something as these cars have a longer life than 10 years. Once we get 100% confirmation that we will not see another update, then I will see if I can possibly get my hands on the data that goes to the hard drive updates. Then try to see if it will fit onto a DVD, and if so if it will play fine because maybe the encryption is the same. If it doesnt fit, maybe someone will know how to get through the encryption and I can work on modifying the data to fit it onto a disk and keep us with map updates once every year or two. because discontinuing a factory navigation system while the cars are still perfectly running and not THAT old is not acceptable to me.

That is true on the size of the disk...but if I was them I'd just cut Disk 1 for US and Disc 2 for Canada/Mexico. DL DVD's are like $1 a pop, big whoop.

Anyway, I won't need to worry about this as I have some news...
