Hey folks so...the time has come to part with my M. I will still be around, but I will just be (most likely) more active on the Y51 sub-forum.

Over the last few months, I've been having days where I wanted a new car and days where I really liked not having a car payment. Many people have tried to talk me out of getting back into a payment and for a little while I agreed. But, long story short, today I came in to my dealer for some service and walked out having signed the paperwork for a 2011 M56x. I have no debt, make a good living, and can easily afford the payment...so, I gave in.

Old car: 2007 M35x - purchased in May of 2010
  • 137kmi as of today - no issues just needs brakes. Needs a front end respray, new headlights and some dents fixed here or there to look tip-top...but for it's year and mileage, very clean.
  • Base model w/ Navigation (8 speakers, no other cool tech)
  • MXP Exhaust (one off - as far as I know, don't know if they ever made any more for the general public)
  • BC Coilovers
  • 19" BE by Breyton GTS-AV Wheels
  • UpRev tuned
  • Motordyne 5/16" Copper ISO Thermal Spacer
  • Stillen Z-Tube
  • Morimoto HIDs (low beam and fogs) from TheRetrofitSource.com
  • Interior and exterior LED upgrade
  • USA Spec. PA15-NIS iPod Adapter
Car is being traded in as-is, only thing I'm keeping is the wheels. Don't have the stock suspension or exhaust, so can't part that out. At the mileage it has, it's going to the auction anyway. They won't be trying to sell it on the lot.

New car: 2011 M56x - car is from FL and was a lease return. Thinking of coating the under body since NY winters are known to wreak havoc on under bodies.
  • 40,xxx kmi as of todays test drive
  • Deluxe Touring Package - Bose Studio Surround Sound System and Power Rear Sunshade
  • Technology Package - Active Trace Control, Adaptive Front Lighting System, Blind Spot Warning & Intervention Systems, Distance Control Assist, and Intelligent Cruise Control
  • Rear deck lid spoiler
  • 19" BE by Breyton GTS-AV Wheels (transferred from other car)
Plans for the new car consist of:
  • 25% tint all around w/ sunroof. 50% tint on front windshield.
  • Coilovers (likely BC?)
  • Sport front bumper (possibly whole kit)
  • 3k Morimoto HID fogs
  • Better D2S HID bulbs for the low beam
  • Eventually better fitting wheels (Vossens?)
  • Possibly black roof and blacked out headlights
Not sure I'll ever touch the engine on this car by doing the same things I did on the first M (uprev, spacer, z-tube), but I may look into a couple of things that will make the car breathe better/stay cooler/run more efficiently. Nothing crazy.

-----------------------------------

As for the price, I feel I did quite well for my second time (first time I bought a used car, I got shafted due to not knowing much going in - car was clearly repaired in the front and front passenger wheel was BADLY worn on the inside).

Price before negotiation: $31,995
Tax: $2,559.60
Fees: $271
Trade-In: $8,000
Price before negotiation OTD: $26,825

I negotiated the following into the deal at $25,799 OTD:
  • Keep my aftermarket wheels
  • Infiniti Elite Warranty until 98k (+48mo/48kmi) - $2319
  • Extra $500 on the trade-in bringing it up to $8,500
  • Got the price of the car down from $31,995 to $29,823.15
-----------------------------------

I pick it up Monday, and then the fun begins.

Congrats and welcome to the dark side!

I too got rid of my Y50 for a Y51. What color is your interior?

Thanks.

It's black. Or rather, something that resembles black? In person it's black but in pics it looks like really really dark brown.

This, is excellent news, mate ! I'm quite happy for you. It appears to be the same colour as mine and if it IS the pearl version, just wait till you give it a good clay bar, some metal polish, and a couple coats of a good carnuba wax! Also great that it's previous life was in Florida so it's near impossible that any road salt, has gummed up the surfaces underneath and it's likely been driven in our famous puddles and roadway rains so the underside is probably very clean.
I don't know if you're a fan of them, but Phillips daylight-8 DRLs will fit perfectly on the lower bumper - probably with no cutting or mods needed to the bumper at all.
I especially fancy the new wood trim with the dark edges and the silver ash inlay. Very tasteful!
Wish the very best!

Considering you have the touring package, I'm gonna guess you got the Java.

Perhaps. I didn't really notice the color. I did notice that the head liner is suede though :bigthumb:

Congrats dude. I'm likely going to keep this m until it breaks apart then go for something completely different. Tbh this is the longest kept car for me ever. I usually trade them in every two years.

Looks great though. And I'll bet it's got a tone more balls than your 07! You should think about an uprev if they have it

Thanks. 420hp vs 275hp...definitely more ballsy lol.

I do think about getting an uprev tune...but not sure what is out there for intake spacer, intake (not cold air), etc.

I posted this in the Y51 section and do for no responses. Does anyone know if the brakemotive kit for the Y50 works on the, Y51? Got a brand new set in the garage I obviously won't be installing.

I don't think the brakemotive kit will fit. But I will tell you that you will love the heck out of the V8. It is very torque fulfilling. Uprev is a must for the V8 platform from nissan, especially if you can find someone that has the ability to adjust the transmission fluid line pressure to 100% all the time. Our TCU is ECU controlled and based on the accelerator position, the ECU tells the TCU what pressure to move the trans fluid. So having it set at 100% all the time makes it feel like you have a transgo shift kit. Had it done on my Armada and loved it. Exhaust piping on it is large and sufficient for stock purposes, but it can benefit from HFC and just a muffler swaps.

Way to go, Ilya! You are going to be power crazy now!! Good since the weather is keeping your 2 wheeler off the road. Are you driving it yet? Today will be a good one!

If you want to unload the BM kit let me know via PM and I might take it for my 06 and save it for spring.

I have thought about upgrading to a M56, and there is a co-worker who is trying to get rid of his, a 12 M56S, and the S model is hard to find, for 29k with 59k miles. I love the color as well it is the aqua colored one with wheat colored interior, but I commute 40 miles to work on way, and my M is killing me on gas, so I have to look for something more fuel efficient. thinking on getting a Mini S turbo.
Congrats on the new ride, let me know if you have any questions, I have worked on the VK56 platform and love those beast.

Do you know if there is a z-tube type mod for these cars as well? And does anyone make an intake plenum spacer? Motordyne only makes them for the VQ's.

You know what? When you visually compare the inside of the Z-tube to the OEM tube it's almost exactly the same. There is a small opening to the sound isolating chamber but that's about all that is different. Nissan does a really good factory job of opening up their engines. Just compare the few companies out there Lexus, Infiniti and Acura in the same displacement. Nissan always has slightly more HP/TQ squeezed out of NA engines.

That is true. It did give a slightly better tone though, which is why I'm interested in it. If it's even 0.0000001% more efficient, that is just a bonus hahah.

The V8 sounded good on my test drive as it is, so may just leave it stock. I am curious about who makes a plenum spacer though.

Not meaning to derail your thread - I cross-posted this at what-did-you-do-to-your-m-or-q-today-t4 ... l#p6614741

Funny, I just did the 5/16" spacer/copper ISO Motordyne kit and added an Injen short ram, and I can barely hear* the difference (all plastic in place). I am hoping it will give me better mileage, and I know it has to be breathing better - we'll see.
Too much work to take the spacer back out! Especially those damn water lines on the TB cooler.

* I am a bit hearing compromised at 67 with one hearing aid. Intake growl is not in the challenge spectrum though.

I don't believe there are plenum spacers. From what I hear these motors breath better with HFC's and an uprev tune. Like what LouCast said.

Hmm okay. Thanks!

I don't know if I'll go HFC, but I'll most likely go UpRev again. HFC's are loud, no?

This is awesome! You can tune your own note inside the car. Likely those servo valves.

And, for those of you interested in this model car (if you live in Northern California), there is a non-X version available with low mileage too: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ctd/4762845051.html

Price is probably negotiable ... :yesnod
