I didn't even realize it was still around until about a month ago when someone mentioned they still use it to me. I was shocked, tbh.

Edit: I don't particularly like the ruling either. Why is it LimeWire's fault if someone wants to use their software illegally?

They are the enablers. If they were smart they'd just move their operation over seas. Bye bye Supreme Court.

Well, I could fairly easily beat someone to death with a toaster, but I doubt anyone would go after KitchenAid if I did...

If kitchenaid gave you a toaster, showed you the best way to beat someone up with it, and then pointed at the guy who just banged your 60 year old grandma and winked a couple of times, and you proceeded to beat the s*** out of him they might be somewhat responsible.

People still use limewire?

AppleBonker wrote:Well, I could fairly easily beat someone to death with a toaster, but I doubt anyone would go after KitchenAid if I did...
The product was advertised and marketed specifically for the purpose of getting things that cost money for free, illegally. People don't go after Nissan every time someone is hit by a car or Smith and Wesson every time someone is murdered by one of their guns, because they are not developed and marketed specifically for committing illegal acts. Limewire is. If you want to box up a glass cutter, some pliers, and whatever the hell else you want, fine, but don't call it a "home invasion kit" and expect not to be shut down. Said toaster doesn't exist for the purpose of beating people. It exists to make toast. the maker is not responsible for its misuse, within reason, only for its INTENDED uses. Lime Wire (the company) gave you LimeWire, the product, specifically and download and share copyrighted files, and essentially went so far as to say "here's how to use our product to break the law. Enjoy."

This ruling also means jack s***. There is nothing that can really be done to kill existing copies of limewire out in the wild, since they don't need a home server and other peers act as the analogues to trackers. Gnutella, the framework limewire is built around, stille exists, has like 30 other clients, and most of those clients can't be deactivated without the user's permission short of infecting their system with malware that would do it.

Good, I'm tired of some of the songs on my iPod being a thousand times louder than the rest.

Did limewire advertise how to pirate material? I never looked into it, honestly.

I've been using Bittorrent for years. limewire was always a haven for viruses. realistically this kind of thing will never be stopped. piracy has existed since before i had a commodore 64.

Bittorrent FTW. I loved the Commodore 64, and I had almost every game for it, thanks to my uncle and his crazy mail in game coop. Buy 1 game, get a copy of 50 or so.

Limewire has always been much better for quick music downloads.

When I want CD rips I turn to torrenting, but for individual songs I still go to Limewire.

Also, the limewire site is down, the software still works...

What if we shut down porsche then as they did give us sports cars and show us how to drive them fast while winking a couple of times, then told us to go use them on the street where that same useage is illegal?

Also, where did lime wire & co. show you how to steal movies while winking a couple of times?

Limewire is not for illegal downloads, it is for sharing files. Yes, the creators probably knew what was going to happen... But so did Porsche when they built the 911.

Also, who the hell still uses lime wire? If anything this is a favor to file sharers because now they will be forced to go and learn how things are done in the 21st century.

Once again, Limewire is great for a quick and dirty download of single tracks. Torrents are slow and bloated for this.

With proper filters you can avoid viruses.

No, Limewire is useless...

You want quick DLs of single tracks...

Try dirpy.com

I don't get it...

So far I have been able to search common artists music and when I find a song all I can do is DL a "preview".
http://www.musicdumper.com/?search=tayl ... AgICAuaHRt

Also I couldn't find "DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto feat The Serafim Crew - Paris Luanda (Steven Jamal Edit)" but on YouTube there are dozens.
So far I think Dirpy might have the upper hand over MusicDumper. Unless of course I did something wrong...

I just tried both of them, don't like either. One had NO tracks from my favorite band, the other (MD) had 23.

:(

I'm gonna miss LW.

Hahaha

Yeah I was going to say...
How do they not have a TS song...
Ahh so what I DL will be what plays in the preview section. It sucks that it still says "preview" and how you have to set all the info before saving...

But Dirpy isn't working right now anyway...

Dirpy seems dumb. They're ripping audio from youtube videos? Yeah, great fidelity...

Yup, search in HD.

256kbps

I think that is as good as it gets. I don't mind 192-128 so unless you're an audiophile or you end up using your iPod to perform, Dirpy is solid.
infiniti_lineup wrote:You don't have to set the info. It only is titled "Preview", but once you import it into iTunes or whatever else you're using, it automatically pops up with the correct information! :gapteeth:
That's cool. I will definitely send that link to my Apple friends. I personally don't use a Zune or iPod so for me Dirpy is still probably my best bet.

Weird.

I remember having to go through a whole "I will not commit copyright infringement" agreement just be able to use it.
Guss that was not enough to cover their butts. Damn got to find another one, no more room for a whole cd just for 1 song torrents.
