ALL last summer the advertising on TV paid for by Nissan Canada ab nauseum stated very clearly for all to see and hear that the Nissan Versa made 50 miles to a gallon. Even the Service Manager at Oakwood Nissan here in Saskatoon admitted seeing it all last year.

I have had action on my letters to Nissan Canada and will report on this shortly. Very interesting results when you are proactive.

Call your Ministry of Poutine. Canada's fuel economy test procedures are outdated. They were revised in the US in 2008 to more accurately reflect reality.

Great minds think alike. :chuckle:

OP, I wouldn't bet on Nissan Canada backing the Brink's Truck to your door with a financial settlement yet. I'm curious to see the ads. I'd be very surprised if Nissan Canada's marketing dept. would make such a huge gaffe by making a mileage claim like that without the common disclaimer "your mileage could vary." Of course they could get away without the disclaimer if they were simply citing those inflated government figures. If that's the case, OP would be S.O.O.L.

Wasn't last year 2011? If they were advertising ads all last year for the Versa having 50 mpg, wouldn't it be for at least the 2011 model? Your gripe is concerning a 2010 model, is it not?

Yeah, I'm fairly certain Nissan has NEVER claimed ANY of their vehicles get 50 MPG. The leaf gets 99 MPGe.

And that's all I have to say about that

Here is a Nissan ad for the Versa HB from 2009

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj8GQwrKsk4

It advertises 45 MPG. (0:18)

It also lists 6.3l/100km

If you do the math you figure out that it is imperial MPG (US mpg is 37 for 6.3l/100km)

Search youtube or similar places to find a copy of an ad that states 50mpg and you are set. Without ad in hand it's doubtful you will get very far.

On nissan.ca they do advertise 50mpg for the 1.8 xtronic Versa, but thats based on the Canadian fuel economy testing standard which is quite unrealistic.

I cant blame Nissan for doing what ALL of its competitors do and following the SAME standard.

And believe me, I'm naturally inclined to blame Nissan.

Oh ye of little faith! My dealership worked with the engineer from the factory in Ontario and after extensive checking for two days now have found the problem. They changed a faulty sensor!!!! Yes, my car set on cruise at 100 kmph makes just under 52 miles per gallon. They took it out three times on the road and the mileage was excellent. I am going to take a 200-300 km trip to check it for myself. If this is true I shall work on Nissan if my city mileage does not concur with what has been written in the various consumer reports.

OP since your in Canada I am wondering if your saying MPG but actually meaning to say KMPG? (Killometers per gallon)

50 KMPG = 31.1 MPG

^ Much more reasonable..

I said that several posts up.
Hmm I can't belive I missed it??

I thought I had read everything.. Must have gotten busy and skipped it by accident. :gotme

Are you calling the Engineer at the factory in Ontario and the dealership here liars? I'm taking my car out for a long run and will report what I get.

No, you. But suspicious is the term I would use. For example, What did the "engineer" use to calculate the average gas mileage and how far did he travel to determine it?

So, first you'd have us believe that Nissan engages in false advertising, and you're ready to sue because you can't believe they misled you....

...and now you're defending the dealership and an engineer from Nissan?

But wait - THEN you're going to beat them up over your city mpg performance?

I'm not an easy guy to confuse, but congratulations - I'm baffled by this entire thread.

ALSO: I'm no math wiz, but I'm pretty sure that the money you would have "over spent" (getting 46 vs 50 mpg) is overshadowed by the amount you've spent trying to prove your case, in addition to the amount you'll spend on your "200-300 km trip to check it for myself".

By the way, the difference between 47mpg and 50 mpg over 100K mile averages just under 1/2 cent per mile, or roughly $482 over 100K miles.

Maybe Her Majesty's High Minister Of Weights, Measures, and Mathematical Computations of Imperial Whatchacallits will write you a check. :)

Consider me completely trolled. IDK WTF is going on.

The only way to figure this out for myself is to go buy a Pontiac G6 GXP for MinisterOfDoom.

The other thing I'd want to know - Was it bought new? The car is 3 years old, with 11K miles.
