On a related note, the Aztek dealer in my town just closed up shop. It's a shame, really. They could never sell a damn thing at that place. Whole lot filled with big ugly Azteks.

I've heard that the Cavalier dealership is going to be closing soon too.

Anyway, Motorex sells gray market vehicles, specifically Skylines. I'd imagine they stick with just the Skylines because they sell and it wouldn't be cost effective to legalize a bunch of other cars. Unless there's a big gray market in Japan, I don't think you'd find a Motorex equivalent there.

Hmmm...does Japan have the old Gen 1 Ford Escort? If I can convince the entire country that they're a cool car, I can buy them in the US for $200 and then mark 'em up 2000% in Japan. :D

Errrr...maybe not. ;)

I wasnt using Motorex as an equivalent dealer. But there are car dealerships that just sell a type or 2 types of models

this has to be the most retarded post ever. Thats like saying "Its an Mustang, not a Ford Mustang." I suppose it on depends on how lazy and/or uneducated the person you are taking to is...to mention the maker or not.

alright so he was mistaken.. he is a german car guy not a nissan guy.. i think he was thinking more along the lines of skyline being its own line from nissan

IE You wouldnt say you drive a Toyota Lexus IS300.. just a Lexus IS300, even tho Toyota is the parent company.. he must have thought skyline was a range of cars/daughter portion of Nissan.. o well

Enough with the retard comments, thx :)

Nissan sells cars at two types of dealerships "blue stage" regular cars like cedrics, stageas, vans, Marchs etc. and "red stage" Skylines, Zs and Silvias. Skylines are not mythic like they are in the states, they enjoy the same respect and status as a Corvette would in the states.

Hey TMS, where the heck is a "red stage" Nissan dealer? The only Nissan dealers I could find in the Tokyo area had nothing but the slow cars in the showroom.

I saw a dealer, and was like "hey sweet, a Nissan dealer," only to walk in to gawk at a Cube.

Might be a regional thing, that's the way they are branded in Okinawa. We're like the Deersnot Nebraska of Japan though.

In other countries, they can focus on the name of the car.

In the US they name cars to put an emphasis on brand name rather than model name (ie. INFINITI G35...or MERCEDES BENZ c220)

I was wondering when you'd notice and wether or not you would mind. Apparently not! :ylsuper

Back on topic, if you ever sit in an earlier IS300, you'll notice the interior materials are unbecoming of a $32,000 car (because it's really a $15,000 car) and the interior motif is totally different from any other lexus. Lexus's exterior designs are becoming more cohesive (meaning they all share obvious resemblances but are still different) as is Infiniti and Acura.

I cant believe that this is a topic of discussion. TMS lives in Japan, Okinowa. I think that is probably your best answer.

I think the G35 from Japan having the burger in the grill would be a good answer:D

someone posted a pic of it a while back...
