Seriously though: Now how much for one with no drivetrain?

Its just a terrible, terrible, terrible deal. They are both cool cars, and I get that your buy exclusivity, ect.... But is it really worth paying 10X the actual value of the car?

You could make a 240 look like one for 10k(or look like anything else you want), and have it damn quick and street legal for 15.

For like 25 you could buy an S13, refresh everything, legally swap a V8, and have whatever a totally unique flashy car that would absolutely destroy what ever skyline you would import. And it wouldn't really be to much more work/time.
AMEN!!! Someone's finally said it!

S15 never came to the states so there is no crash data on it nor any emmisions cert. It basically is as "legal" as a Skyline.

You're going to buy a S15 or R32, only for it to be a PCH car?

You need to be slapped. Hard.

Yeah, but not as sexy as Willow Springs or California Speedway.

Track or nothing.

I would be relaly lying if I said I would never take the car to Street of Willow. I loved tracking my Evo there and think a S15 would be fun too.

ohh man this thread is epic... OP, im not going to vote cuz its a closed poll so i cant add a crazy answer, but if you have the money and want the vehicle just convert yours. itll be legal and no one would even know. RHD, body work, rb26.... plus you can drive it. imagine getting this car and then having it not only taken away like an impound, but taken and demolished.

Ok, now you have my approval. I just didn't want to be hard-parked for life..

In that case, I say S15. I think it's more impressive to see one of those on the streets than a skyline..

Well, let's see here...

The Skyline is an attractive sport sedan. The S15 looks like a 9 year old Pontiac.

Not exactly a difficult decision.

Technically, this is untrue. USDM S chassis = legal. USDM V8 = legal. USDM S chassis + USDM V8 = illegal. I think it's on the NHTSA's website (and I'll post a link if I'm not too lazy to look for it), but there is a statute that states that motor swaps from the same model, same year or newer are the only ones which are legal. In other words (as far as the feds are concerned), it's KA or nothing for 240s.

That doesn't mean that you will be monitored, followed, wiretapped, etc. by G-men in the event you do a swap. It doesn't even guarantee you will be busted when going in for a state inspection/emissions (if your state has either). Just that if 'it' does hit the fan, it is in writing that you are in the wrong, and penalties can be assigned to you.

Not that that has stopped anyone before, but I only feel it fair to put the word out.

hmm...

all wheel drive twin turbo in-line 6

or

rwd 4 bangin single turbo...

hmmm....

anyways... Unstroked.. I see that you live in Santa Ana. I think you should head out to the Irvine Wednesday 240sx meet someday, and talk to Paul. He's owned, tracked, and daily driven both (both of which were featured in Sport Compact Car mag). lol... ask a person with real personal experience behind both steering wheels.

This actually sounds like a good idea. What is the location and time of the meet? Is that Paul guy on Jspecconnection.com???

That is not what the call on california smog regulations I took throught toyota's technical education network said.

You just need to maintain all smog equipment, possible have it from a newer vehicle, and get it checked by the ref.

If it were me Id choose S15...but I can get them here anyway because we have them out here...would get the crappy Audtralian s15 though its slower thenthe JDM one...cant remember the difference but it is.

In saying that an R32 would be a lot cheaper to get here. S15 Spec R is anywhere from $24 grand - $30k still, depending on mods.

R32 GTR can be anywhere from $10k - $20k depending on mods and who's selling it.

if it were me in the US i wouldnt bother with the hassle...
