WOW! Is quite impressing. But I know it will probably never come out, still is a pretty bad a** design.

I love that design, dammit I wish I was smarter.
I had the Idea of using carbon and kevlar in the body as suspension a few years ago. I just completely lack the mental capacity to do anything with that idea.
I was thinking like in the same way a compound bow works, just with a shock absorber to eliminate bounce.

Very Very cool concept car.

haha cool

But when the power goes out, the wheels fall apart. Sun spots would indirectly cause your car to crash.

YES.

Think "corvette composite leaf spring".

HAHAHAHA, it totally exists and I am too dumb to know it. Good grief, I'm going to bed, my brain should have known that.

That's quite an incredible design. If they every make a concept car out of it, I will be impressed. I want to see someone drive it!

1000 pounds. yea right, maybe without batteries, can you imagine how much battery that suspension alone would take to hold up that weight, hell you add one full grown man and you add +/- 15%

i can see how the design is neat, but unless that "organic outer layer" is a solar collector or something i dont see this happening, and can you imagine hitting a pot hole and your wheel fly's off into a ditch. i think vehicle concepts are really cool, but they at least need to be somewhat achievable, and this is about as achievable as jetpacks being used by everyone everyday is. they need to fix the whole "batterys only take you 100 miles on one charge" thing.

there are much better ways for the r/d team to be spending there time.

but once again. cool design, and in 2030 maybe we will see them. prob not though.

I believe Mercedes or Audi is building one as well, supposedly 800lbs though. Seats 4 people in the diamond pattern as well.

And about the jet pack thing above, they actually have consumer jet packs now. I believe somewhere in the $375,000 range. Not really consumer in my opinion, but still non the less consumer available.

Oh and I forgot to mention the jet packs were pretty fuel efficient.

Haha oh and and another thing about the new concept vehicles, imagine all the random road debris like dirt and small rocks which contain iron or some other metal, now imagine high powered magnetic wheels. :nono:

That's really cool looking.

I think the idea of using multiple concentric electric motors per wheel is interesting (at least, that's what it looked it uses from the video). Use one at low speeds, then kick the 2nd in for higher speeds. You don't have to worry about electric motor torque output falling as rpm rise because the first motor doesn't have to speed up to increase tire speed past a certain point.

Steering that doesn't pivot around the center of the tire isn't a good idea, though. It'll be more prone to disruption from road surface imperfections, and it won't auto-center correctly.

That is pretty sick. All I can think about when I see cars of similar design is the I Robot vehicles of the future.

But yes, that is a pinnacle of engineering that hopefully takes place in the mainstream one day in the future.

Very slick design. I like it, But the lack of privacy and seating positions do not make it an ideal vehicle for taking on a date, well, unless you're an exhibitionist that likes reach-arounds. :chuckle:

If you notice, early in the video, there was a "radioactive" sign. My guess is nuclear power. This would mean you wouldn't need much along the lines of batteries. Mostly have them act as capacitors.

Way off-base (in several ways).

Spend a little time with some of the technology we experienced while working on a car for the Automotive X-Prize and you'll see... we're a long way ahead of what most people think.

BTW, the engine-in-hub design is already a reality. SO cool.

Looks like a pain in the butt to repair or fix if it breaks, not to mention the hurt the parts would put on your wallet. But I doubt it will ever get that far. Cool idea.

That's what people said about a lot of technologies we have today.

Keep in mind that these concepts are an amalgamation of ALL the upcoming technologies that are slowly working their way into the regular car market.

In 1987, I was "baller" for having 16" alloy wheels - hard to find tires. Think about that. ;)

I was especially impressed with the magnetic wheel propulsion system. A concept I havent thought about since high school learning about that MAG LEV train

Pretty neat concept, wonder how its magnetic steering and drivetrain would handle the rebar thats under all of our highways. Seems viable as our technology and willpower advances... Damn i wish i coulda finished that automotive mechanical engineering degree
