I first mentioned this in another thread but I figure if to make it worth a shot I ought to make a new thread for it. I say we hold a raffle for an s13 SR20DET. At 1500 bucks and 5 bucks a pop we'll need 300 people. Anyone else like this idea or am I nuts???

We <could> do it but I think we wont get 300 peopel to throw in we would need a bigger price per.

Also all these engines are used quite a bit of risk to assume for our small group of volunteers.I am not saying no just throwing these considerations out there.

Fred...:)

youd have to set up the rules VERY carefully when dealing with everyone's money....

there would have to be very stringent guidelines. and for the people involved, would their friends/relatives be exempt from buying a ticket for the raffle? fiznat is right...you need expressed written rules before its all said and done. 1500 bucks for an SR? w/transmission? who's the donor?

Interesting idea, but I dont know what I would do with an SR20DET motor. Maybe I can put it in my lawnmower? Reduce the time it takes to mow my lawn. Sounds like a legal nightmare in both respects.

Hey J-spec Tuner, what kind of RWHP are you putting down?

i'll touch it with a stick. 1500 dollars in free SR parts (cuz thats all it would be - parts) is a lot better than nothing at all. i bet i could recoup that 5 bucks pretty quick.

I think the raffle should give away some sort of suspension mods... because, who couldn't use some nice spring/shock/sway bar combo... maybe allot $1500 towards this prize, and the winner gets to choose what car its for:) we should email some of the sponsors (enjuku, heavy throttle, etc...) and see if they wanted to help out!

ive got a better idea, anybody can buy as many $5 tickets as they like, and all the money from the tickets goes into a big pot for maybe a big gift certificate to spend on parts at one from one of the sponsors. that way it doesnt matter how many ppl enter. lets say only 4 ppl enter so thats a $20 pot and people can buy multiple tickets to increase the chances of winning. this would be a better set up because the person who wins can buy parts that he needs rather than winning a prize that he maybe already has or cant use. and we could maybe hold this raffle once amonth or something like that. just a thought

That would be cool, we could even do it where a percentage of the pot was given to NICO to cut down on the number of ads necessary :D

yeah, thats a better idea- I like it!!

If we're serious about this, I think the first pot should be limited to like $100 or so, just to test out how smoothly the system runs. ...And having a gift certificate from a sponsor would be a GREAT idea. That'll help NICO and they might even be willing to do some sort of deal.. who knows.

This is looking a little better!

Well the way I figure it, theres PLENTY of guys who would love to have an sr. I just threw in $1500 bucks because just the other night I talked to a guy that works for http://www.total-boost.com and at that price through them you can get an S13SR20DET Red Top with uncut harness. This includes at least engine, transmission, and ecu. 50,000 or less on motor and they give not a startup but one month warranty on the motor. I'm sure there are ALOT of nico members that would love to get in on this action for 5 or 10 bucks a piece. The exact price was 1474, and he quoted me 160 bucks for shipping to my area code. I know there's others who couldn't use an sr20det or already have one but I know there's ALOT of guys that would love to get their hands on one and are saving or don't quite have the cash. I for one cannot imagine someone in this position not wanting a part of this for 5 or 10 bucks and I know there are ALOT of people in this positiong. I think an sr20 would be a great thing to raffle for the first raffle. We could always give away other things in future raffles but I have a feeling this would be a hit. Whoever wins can throw it in a do a nice writeup on thier NICO sr20det. I think even without winning it would be a nice thing to see the winner do a write up on their install. To address Stutt944, I think it would be a good idea to allow Nico's friends and/or family members to participate if they really have interest in using an sr20det. Although I can't completely keep someone from doing so, I'd like to have only people that have the intent of using the motor in the raffle. This makes things more enjoyable for the 299 people that didn't win and lost 5 bucks so they would at least get to see it went to good use and not sold for money that was used to buy a body kit for a cavelier owned by some kid who is friend's friend's friend is a nico member and someone who cares nothing for nissan and infiniti automobiles. MORE INPUT!!! What do you guys think???

I like fiznat's idea better myself... i mean, if you give a gift certificate to a sponsor that benefits both the sponsor and the recipeint... also, the things bought would be new, and not some crappy $1500 SR that we'd have to hear about forever if (or WHEN, to be more precise) it breaks;)

I'd most definatly NOT pitch in $5 for an SR, but I'd throw $10 for the chance to win a $1500 gift certificate to Enjuku (or any of the other sponsors):D lol

Why would the sr break? If it's a complete pos in really bad condition it will show and an exchange for a good motor will be had, hence the one month warranty. Other than that if it breaks it'll be because of improper install, tuning, etc. which will be the owner's fault and part of the everlasting o-so-fun learning process. It's part of the game and if the kid blows his motor, then hey, pat him on the back and tell him welcome to the 2nr world and to start saving :-) . I also would not be completely against a 1500 dollar gift certificate, provided that one of our sponsors has an sr in that price range. Personally I just think an sr would be a really NICE giveaway and there's alot of guys who'd love to have one buy don't have the cash.

you WILL not find a good SR20 for $1500... sorry:)

if you wanna see a pretty CA18DET that blew up and had metal chunks flyin around when I started it, check my cardomain page! Sure the importer can clean up the outside, but that means NOTHING about the condition of the motor...

you can believe anything you want, but a $1500 SR20 = CRAP. plain and simple... I got burned by a bad (cheap) motor, and I hope you won't too!

$1500 SR + no startup guarentee + random internet company i have never heard of = very bad idea. $1500 shoping spree at a reputable NICO sponser is a much better idea.

dude, believe what you want! I mean, I said the same thing to all the people that told me what we're telling you. I said it wouldn't happen to me, and that the company would be real cool and just send me another motor :rolleyes

guess what, they said "sure, send that motor back across the US and you pay for shipping both ways ($300 each way) and you pay a 20% restocking fee... soooo yeah, you buy that $1500 SR ok?:)

Let me try this again.......1 month warranty. Is not equal to or worse than but BETTER than a startup warranty. If the motor is majorly f***ed then it will show, and will be replaced. Also keep in mind that I'm talking about an s13 sr, not s14 or s15. I've seen many sites selling sr's and this was a normal price for an S13SR. These guys are reputable. If you want go to the site, call them, email them, hell they have an AIM name you can speak with them just as I did. If we raffle this motor I will personally rent a damned rental car and drive to this place to be sure that the damn thing gets delivered....sheesh

dude give it up. its a nice idea, but its just not practical to expect a SR to be good (even with a warranty) for $1500. and EVEN IF IT WAS, I know for a fact that most people will refuse to buy a raffle ticket just because they dont want to deal with the hassle. 3 moderators have already disagreed with you too... what else do you want??

Id be down for the gift certificate thing, but not the SR thing. (I'm goin KA-T anyways!)

...and to be fair, the certificate idea was TurboKA37's, not mine :) . I'll take the credit though, its a good idea!

yeah i called, emailed, and talked excesivly to afterdark tuning and we all know how well that turned out. My (2nd) motor cost me $2500 with startup AND 1 month guarentee from heavythrottle, along with some of the best product support in the country. not only was it complete, but it was ultra clean and new looking (inside and outside; mechinicly and in apearence). Ill stick with what i KNOW works thankyou.

not everybody wants a SR, but everyone sure could use a $1500 shopping spree.
