The used market is really making me cringe every time I look. Who would've thought the prices would've gotten so high? Hopefully this bubble will burst as it makes me not want to buy a used car

The few Mini owners I know all have manual transmissions and unaffected. But I had read in one of the autorags a while back about a class action lawsuit against BMW for their Mini CVTs failing shortly after the warranty period. Evidently BMW did not help their cause by telling the owners they were not extending the CVT warranty.

I suppose I can understand why BMW drew the line as it might be financially devastating for them to extend the warranty and cover a bunch of $5K+ per CVT repairs. Of course none of those poor owners with CVT's taking it in the pooper are likely to ever buy another Mini. What I find interesting is that Nissan has been watching this stuff unfold under their noses yet is full steam ahead with their CVT. I still don't get their obsession with CVT. It's not like the old transmissions sucked.
