you dont need a 94 ECU. ive been running a 90-93 ECU on my 94 Q for the past 4 years and its been perfect... The only thing the 90-93 cant do that a 94 ECU can do is switch on the aux fan, which its a non issue for me because when its hot enough for my car to get that hot, my AC is on and the AC system kicks the fan on way before that...

90-93 ECUs are easier to program for us and will be easier for you to reprogram later especially if you want to go boost or some other sort of custom tune.

I actually just sold my last one but if theres some demand I'll do a special run for the VH guys... If you guys pre-pay I can reserve one of my core for you and do special options, primarily like eliminating EGR and other minor stuff like that...

I am especially willing to work with the VH guys, this kind of stuff is way cooler than some joe blow who's putting one of these in their Q and will never see above 6000 RPMs.. At least with you guys, I know the tunes are going to be fully utilized....

When you are ready Wes, I can prepay.

Would we be getting a 2, 3, or 4 way ECU? I'd be interested in

Stage II, Stage III, Race Gas, Valet Unit.

im only doing 2 ways right now... i dont have a "race gas" tune and that would require retuning everything..

93 is readily available at many stations in my area. Would that equate to a stage 2 or 3 tune?

the program was made in california with 91 octane, so if it can run fine on the crappy cali gas it can run anywhere...

stage II or stageIII is fine on 91

I'm interested, and can prepay as well. Removing emissions and things of that nature would be perfect since I'm running aftermarket headers. Let me know when you need the money!

Where are you finding 93? I can't recall ever seeing it around here.

But yeah, stage II is working fine on 91 for me.

BTW, Mine sees 7000+rpm daily.

MOD I need to update my profile. I moved back to Boise in July. We can get it at any sinclair/stinker station in town.

As soon as Wes tells me he is ready I am looking forward to the HP gains!

Unfortunately there is no rigorous testing of posted octane. States only test to see if Premium is higher than midgrade and regular to avoid sales price fraud.

Marketers are allowed to post something reasonable say 91-93 for the premium grade.Altitude makes a difference and thus a 93 in the mountains may only really test at 91 at sealevel due to lower air density in mountains.

Premium is just that a premium priced product. You can take junk midgrade and mix in 10% ethanol and create a 93 octane but whether that is really a prenium is open to debate.

Al that really counts is the motor octane test results as research octane is a negative..............making the blended number look good but the performance sucks!

I would strongly agree with Q45tech's statement.

In my senior project class one of the goups did a test involving testing the actual octanes of fuel from different stations. I am not sure how the testing was done other than I know they used some expensive scientific insturments from the chemistry department at WSU.

Suprisingly Maverick stations Tested closest to the actual posted number (+/- 1%) I have never in the past used Maverick, but now I do.

Smiths Grocery stations where the second best.

Flying J was the worst at -2.4% on premium fuels.

85 at all stations seemed to be the closest to actual posted numbers.

I wish I had an email for someone in that group so I could get a copy of the report. These are the only numbers I wrote down in my notes.

Thanks, Kyle

That's a whole other ball game. OBD-2 is much different to tune than obd-0&1

Anything is possible but expect that the decompiling and rewriting software my run $80,000-$100,000 for minor changes in V8.There are underground companies in Japan that bribe Nissan employees for the unencoded code but that is just the start of the process.

Too much extra [non engine] is located in ecu that must be maintained and bit and hash checked.

you COULD try using an emanage ultimate...and still remain in obd2 compliance.

I'm keen, especially if EGR, Emissions and the AT can be programmed out. I'm in NZ tho so it probably wouldn't be practical to send my core over to the US. Whats the price without a core these days Wes?

I'm happy to prepay.

Cheers,Wes

The way I do it is I send you one thats already programmed and you send me a core back if you want... I charge $350 to have my ECU sent out the door and if I receive an ECU back, I send back $100 for a net cost of $250..

Anyway, if you guys are interested send me an email, thats how i keep track of everything...

Out of curiousity are these NICO ECU's still available?? I just purchased my 94 Q45 (base) a few months ago because honestly it reminded me of a 525i I owned in the past. I have since fallen in love with the Q in its own right.

Glad you liked it :bigthumb: definitely the best bang for the buck as far as power, ease of install, and overall driveability with basically no downsides... :)

I haven't heard about this before. Is it possible to get more info of what you do and what the benefits. Is this similar to that of a Nistune without the board?

Also do you make allowances for things such as Turbo's in your tunes?

I have a 2way ecu (stage 2 and 3) out of my Q45 I am not using anymore because the s13 is Vipec. If anyone is interested hit me up $250 saves you from sourcing an early model ecu and sending it in.
