Why AMSOIL?

A Commitment to Excellence. As a jet fighter squadron commander Lieutenant Colonel Albert J. Amatuzio had ample opportunity to witness synthetic lubricants in action. These oils are used exclusively in jet engines because of three extraordinary performance characteristics: an ability to reduce friction and wear on engine components, an ability to function dependably at severe temperature extremes and an ability to withstand rigorous and lengthy engine operation without chemical breakdown.

Recognizing that these same benefits would prove invaluable in combustion engines, Amatuzio began conducting serious research in 1963. By 1966 he had formulated a synthetic motor oil and put it to use in vehicles in northern Minnesota. Throughout the late ’60s Amatuzio continued his research and development and sold commercially available synthetic oils under a variety of names. In 1970 he incorporated his own name into a commercially sold product called AMMOIL. In 1971 this product name was changed to AMZOIL and it continued to be sold commercially. The true milestone came in 1972 when AMZOIL became the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute criteria. The new lubricant performed like no other before it. When the first can appeared on the market in 1972, it signaled the birth of an entire industry. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants have expanded the boundaries of lubrication science and redefined the performance possibilities of modern machinery and engines.

Im just posting up to say I was the first person to buy oil from Ant. Everything worked out great, and it was way cheaper than buying it local.

He will be supplying all the oil for both my Maxima, and race car.

This is pretty cool.

Normally you have to get a preferred customer number to get discounts. To get that you have to pay a yearly fee.

Amsoil makes a lot of great products.

They have a lot of choices, if you have any doubt about what to get please consult your sales representative for guidance.

*edit* I don't like the reason given for why you should use Amsoil.

Keep it simple, with a Used Oil Analysis it is possible to go up to 15000 miles on a single oil change reliably! Compare this to changing oil at 5000 miles. Relative cost is higher for regular oil changes if your car's Analysis returns within spec.

You make a valid point PMQ... thus:

SERVICE LIFEAMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

• Severe Service(4) – Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

• Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).

• In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.*OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer

(1) Engines operating under modified conditions(non-stock) are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturer.

(2) Mechanically sound engines are in good working condition and do not, for example, leak oil or consume excessive amounts, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak anti-freeze and have properly working emission control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.

(3) Personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

(4) Turbo/supercharged vehicles, commercial or fleet vehicles, extensive engine idling, use of AMSOIL motor oil in vehicles with more than 100,000 miles without prior use of AMSOIL motor oil, daily short trip driving less than 10 miles (16 km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty condition driving.

You can use Synthetic at any point in time.

If your engine is in good condition with regular oil it will operate just fine with synthetic.

May I ask what engine is in your vehicle, and what type of mileage is normally seen from that engine?

The reason I ask is that it may not make sense to switch this late into the engine's life cycle if it's only going to get a couple more thousand miles...

The first thing I would recommend is using Auto-RX to clean up any build up that has occurred over the years/miles. This product has been tested and proved to be the current best internal engine cleaning product. Use it with your normal oil per the instructions. Once the final rinse cycle is done I would switch to Amsoil.

the simple answer to this is: you can never have too many miles.

there are several myths here and there about synthetics but they are simply myths. what AMSOIL will do is clean out your system, and if there are deposits somehow keeping your seals in tact, then when it cleans that seal it could cause oil burn. i personally have never heard of this happening though, and it is indeed one of those myths.

it would not hurt you to clean it before hand (as PMQ mentioned) in order to take full advantage of the AMSOIL benefits. but i can tell you (from running the Z24 as well) it runs great in the truck!

PEZ,I think this topic will go on forever but what do you think about switching to synthetic transmission oil on a 1999.5 3.3 V6 Pathfinder with around 79,000 miles? The debate is endless. Recently had some work done at a Nissan dealership and they didnt recommend doing anything to it aside from draining 4-5 quarts from trans plug and refilling with Nissan trans oil. Other dealership said needed a full flush and fill. Others said remove pan, clean filter etc..... Have switched to synthetic for the front/rear diffs and xfer case, and engine many years ago. Was using Castrol now I only use Mobil 1. Have recently been reading the charts on Mobil 1 not being as good as others etc. Havent switched to Amsoil as it is not available locally and didnt know about it. Royal Purple is now sold locally. Back to my question, do you recommend changing to Amsoil trans synthetic etc? Thanks

Synthetic is never a bad idea in most automotive applications.

That being said, there aren't many tests that I've seen showing the advantages of synthetic oil in the transmission.

Most dealers won't admit it, but synthetic oil's main advantage is the ability to extend Oil Change Intervals. Any other advantages are so minute that they need not be mentioned here.

Most people, and manufacturers now, recommend changing the transmission fluid around 30k to 50k miles. This interval is extremely long already. If you change the fluid yourself you typically need to do it twice to get the majority of the fluid changed.

It is honestly up to you is you want to spend more money to change the fluid. You won't really get lower noise, extended intervals, or better wear protection. It is more of a piece of mind thing.

This is something that you must decide.

^ that's more or less correct...

i'll add in, however, that along with the extended drain people also report 'smoother' shifting and such

as far as the flush vs. drain and fill process... the flush will get out all of the old fluid whereas the drain does not. this means that the extended drain can no longer be so extended because the new is being mixed with the old
