after i just went through all the bullcrap with my red top, i reached my breaking point and grabbed the credit card and bought a long block from a shop in cinci, after workin on it every night after work for the last five days it is done. i started it and it sounded great. now i did replace the clutch when i switched the transmission to the new motor, so i pulled out of the drive way taking it easy and it did great, BUT then i took it for a second ride about a mile long in total stilly babying it but when i got back home it seems to have a tick, or tapping noise coming from under the valve cover, what would cause that to happen so fast. and what could it be. To be honest i am so fed up with sr problems and i dont know how much more my wallet can take someone please help. i did search but i didn't really see anything referring to the sr20

it could just be low on oil and your valves are ticking. or you can adjust the valves to spec

More than likely it's the lifters. And they are hydraulic, so you can't adjust them. After I rebuilt my SR my were ticking like hell, but they primed after a heat cycle or two and are now very quiet. I would drive it some more and see if it goes away.

It is likely either your injectors, or your lifters. If its the lifters, pull them out and bleed them.

Are you running a factory fuel pressure regulator?

Are you running a high volume fuel pump?

High volume pumps tend to run too much pressure when paired with stock regulators. This is hard on the injectors, and it also causes them to "click" louder than normal. Before I got my Nismo FPR many people asked me what the ticking was. Now that my fuel pressure isnt 6 psi above spec, the ticking is gone almost entirely.
