Hey so I was making the other one but I accidently hit post and was like wtf so here is the real one sorry nico for that f up. so here is the write up just for the hell of it. So first take a piece of paper and trace out the hole where the ash tray goes.

Next find some material to work with ( I used oak because I have a ton of it) that will work for the cupholder. Then take a cup (I used a jack in the box cup) to find where you want the drink to sit in the hole then measure the diameter of the part of the cup that is flush with the surrounding edge. The best fit for me was 3 inches because it will hold most cups and it gives you enough lip to work with on the wood. After measuring the distances from the sides of the cups to the edges of the console mark in on the paper template at the measurements you made. Then get a stencil and trace a hole on the paper where you put the marks. lol my dad was tracing it while I took pics. Next trace the outline on the wood a pencil then sharpie (to get the circle I punched threw the paper with a pair of scissors at different parts of the circle then sharpied over them on the wood) Then find a hole saw that is the same as the circle and drill out the hole (remember to clamp it down not try and hold it with your hand, not smart) Make sure to cut the hole before you cut the wood to size it makes it easier to work with. Then cut the piece to about the size you want it, just a little bigger is best so you can fit it snug in the hole i used chop saw because it was fastest. Then sand the corners round and keep test fitting it till it just snuggly goes in the hole. Once you get it to fit snug in there take it out and sand it down till it fits the height you want it (I choose just a little higher so dirt and crap wouldn't get caught in the cracks. After that finish sand it til its smooth. Next paint it I choose black because it matched my interior. Then (and this is optional) take some fabric I used some old carpet I had and cut it to fit in the bottom of the hole so that your drink doesn't screw with any wires you have down there. Then once dry install it (mine was not dry in these two pics so I just set on top to get a pic). And your done easy as that I think it took me an hour and a half to make because I'm slow and I had to wait for the paint to dry, plus the little light in there makes a nice cupholder light. So ya fun little project that you will love forever because it makes life easier. Hope this was helpful to my fellow niconauts. Again sorry for the f*ck up I was just trying to maybe help out some people who dont want to spend money on a new one and i know there are other ones on here I searched I again was bored and wanted to feel helpful

Should have used thinner wood, or some aluminum. But yeah, better post second time around.

I think thinner with an insert would be better.

The wood grain really accents the automatic shift bezel.

Hey man, I hope you take this as advice, instead of being angry about what I'm going to say.I noticed In almost all of your threads that you make you get flamed in basically all of them.So If I was you I would read all the stickies, and just search the forum for a while. Because there is alot of good information on here that is already posted. After you do this you will hopefully not post things that make you seem like a noob, and hopefully you will not get flamed anymore.Best of regards.Once again not trying to be mean. I'm just trying to help you.

At least when you and your passenger say something at the same time you can knock on wood, other than that I see it kinda pointless.

It looks good, but honestly thinner wood looks better. Also a mahogany finish with a mahogany wood radio bezel would look top notch. I know some people say wood grain looks ghey, but I personally like it. If you make it thinner so it sits flush with the rest of the console, you should bring these into a little production. I bet some people would like to have a nice wooden cupholder that looks nice.

You should slap wood trim on the body lebaron style...you'd really stand out. Seriously though, don't take the flaming to heart. It's your car so do what you want. Definately not my taste, and imo not write-up worthy. It says in your profile you're 17, and you're a mechanic? When I was your age my taste was pretty bad...I was into Hondas.

Dude you don't look like an idiot........nobody can see you. You're obviously enthusiastic, so try some other interior mods, or whatever else, and if you like it who cares what anyone else thinks. I'm guessing it's your first car? I did some pretty whack mods to my first car, but I learned alot too.

Am I screwed up, or do other people see this being a problem while shifting gears? (manual) I would knock the drink over with my forearm...

when Im on a fast food run all I do is temporarily place the ashtray in the glove box so I have that space for fries and just hold the drink with my legs so I can eat, text, drink, smoke and shift....without making useless wood zhit.

hey, cool write up. don't be a noob, man up. you posted this thinking it could help others, so what? if there are already 20 other threads about this. at least you have the right idea that the forum is not just to show off zhit and post how you are breaking emission laws in your state. yeah you deserved to get flamed in the other threads, but looks like you are getting it.Don't act like you are sorry.

at least on the internets people has a tendency to take criticism better than they would in real life without their avatar costume, I wish it was the other way around.

Is NICO running out of server space or are you rationing your bandwidth? If you want a thread out of here why not ignore it instead of bumping it to the top?

Wood finish is up to personal preference, but it would definitely be easier to work with then metal plate and if you already have scraps even better. A little off center, but functional.

I would have left it wood and stained it really dark. I like wood grain if it is actually wood.

This also could have been a thread in the interiors subforum and not gen but what ev.

Theres not much to discuss here.

I say just lock it nowIts a simple write up, with nothing particularly new or amazing.Get plank drill hole, cut to fit ash tray....drop.A write up on how to change the coil packs on a CA18DET would be more everything.

P.S IBTL!!!!!....yes i get off on making it IBTL
