Greeting folks,
Years ago I had two Datsun/Nissan pickups. One got sold and the second, a 1983 Datsun 720 with the SD22 five speed got totaled when someone thought they should
pull out in front of me. Anyway, I bought the truck back from the insurance company in order to keep the engine and transmission. I stripped the parts I wanted and
junked the previously totaled truck. The engine and transmission have been living in the back of my shop for about 18 years. I had been looking for a S10 or Sonoma to be the recipient of the SD22. I am now finely getting things together to make the thing belch fire and smoke. I believe the folks here on the site may be able to answer what ever questions I might have in bringing this project about. I will need to find out how to post pictures of this build because I think somewhere along the line someone is going to want me to prove this crazy project is moving forward.
Have fun,
buckshot

Welcome to NICO!
Great on you for making the old Datsun engine live on.

Posting photos is pretty simple. Heres a link for a quick 'how-to.'

It doesn't have to be photobucket, you can use any hosting site, even FB.

Can't wait to see the progress in the build thread!!

An s10 will be somewhere between 300-1300 lbs heavier than the 720... which may not be ideal.

What about something smaller/lighter? Been waiting to see someone import a 1400 Bakkie and do an engine swap...

Of course you could just get one with an SR20DET already in it (kind of common in South Africa)...

(FYI, the Rand is less than 8 cents... just need to make sure you get one old enough and figure out how to ship it here)
