haha its the first 240 ive owned.. not the first ive driven or drifted..

i have been attending actuall drift events and competitions for about 2 years.. the ae86 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY harder than even a stock 240 sx.. dont get me wrong i still love the ae86 way more than my 240 too..haha. i just got the 240 for the competitive factor and the ease to drift it..

most people who say the ae86 is the awesome drift car or whatever never owned one or drove one.. the majority are video option and initial d watching posers who go out on weekends and do donuts in a best buy parking lot..lol.. ask any real drifter anyone who has attended legitimate events and driven and had the pleasure of riding or driving an ae86 and they will tell u the same thing.. the ae86 requires way more driver input and control to run the same course u breeze through in a 240. its a known fact. the ae86 is fun and has a way steeper learning curve but merits its driver when u do it right.. the 240 is fun to hop in and just tear it up once u have the right skill level. enough about the ae86 to 240 comparo.. i just want to get the facts straight on the subject cause i hear lots of morons in this area talk about how great that "86" is for driftin and how they gonna get one and be takumi or some ****.lol.

low end torque or power in general really have little to do with drifting its more about a balanced setup and complete package than anything... and overall driver ability..

i have lots of other videos of me and others drifting too..

my real interest is touge runs (not lanecrossing out of control death driving in sunday traffic either) i have videos of that too but its very contreversial subject so i refrain from uploading those here. u can find me a couple nights a week up in the mtns about 30 minutes from my house. thats where my ae86 comes into play. what the car lacks in power(85whp) and technology(solid rear axel ftw) is highly outweighed by its light weight and its nimble nature.. u drive the car enough u can actually feel what its going on where the weight is going what kind of traction is on what wheel and what kind of reaction the car is giving to throttle and steering inputs. a result of this and running the mtns on a regular basis actually gives me the advantage over some highly unlikely opponents.. i had a run in a few weeks back with a couple of porsches.. a new style carrera and a 914turbo.. i was able to tail them to the bottom tail them back to the top and 4 corners in completly loose sight of them on the downhill.

running the mtns in the ae86 is why i have an ae86.. drifting is a fun thing to do on the side.. for this im gonna go with the 240sx.. its the best car suited for it.. the number of cars actually competing that are 240sxs speaks for itself..

anyway.. im a little long winded guys.. i wanna try to get off on the right foot and not be noted as some newb jackass who watches too much tv and goes out edrifting..lol.

i have driven a corolla be4, a 85 gts coupe... at a private drift event, what sucked was cause the front shocks were like oem replacement and the rears were agx w/ eibachs springs all around.. it was really hard....no powersteering FTL too..

thanx for the welcome guys.. as for when to enter an event.. dont wait the first one that comes up and you can afford it go.. back when i had the green 86.. i had tanabe lowering springs and had installed the lsd 2 days prior and made the 2 hour drive to my first drift practice. we dont have the luxury of local events here.. myrtle beach is about 3 and half hours.. i make that trek once a month if possible. other events are down in atl ga... about 3 hours away too.. then theres nc events about 3 hours away.. if u wanna do it ull travel and do it.

something most people dont understand is that events or practice days are open to everyone to learn.. thats why we have them.. we who actually drift dont sit around and talk **** about everyone whos just learning or isnt up to a certain level.. the only ones doing that are ricers who prolly suck or dont drift anyway... who cares what they think or anyone thinks for that matter.

dude if u or anyone else around here or wherever is interested in drifting or checking an event out.. let me know chris knows how to reach me.. ever since ive started ive tried to promote it and keep an open door to anyone in the area.. but the scene around here is mostly talk.. people who wanna sound like they are something they arent.. its all show. thats why u dont see me hanging out on weekends with the ricers i have no interest in trying to be the leader of the pack or whatever..lol. i actually had kids who went to the practice day in greenville come up to me and say that event sucked.. and they werent impressed.. kids who have never actually drifted at all. my reply was "well all the people who actually had the balls to try it seemed to like it.. maybe u should attend the next one in irwindale." why would i wanna impress some kid hanging out doing out of control donuts on a friday night anyway.. that kind of attitude isnt welcome in drifting anyway.

to those who actually wanna try it for whatever reason.. i openly invite u guys to come out and ride, drive, or just watch. the next one i will likely attend will be at myrtle beach july 15th..

plans for the 240 are quite simple.. for drifting u dont really need much of anything other than driver control and knowledge of what to do and whats going on..

a locking rear diff is a big helper and thats pretty much it.. i will prolly be welding the diff up in this one this weekend for the time being.. my suspension list will consist of important things.. the tie rods, caster and camber pcs, and tension rods mostly.. collars to stiffen up the handling will prolly go in too.

the sohc ka is more than enough power to drift.. ca, sr, and rb are great engines... but not in anyway neccessary.. im honestly surprised to see guys jump in with a swap and hp trying to compensate for lack of experience.. its funny they build a car for somehting they dont even know how to do.. on that note the sohc ka will be all thats under the hood.. if it quits ill dig up another sohc ka.. remember its near twice the hp of what im used to anyway..lol..

as far as lowering it or expensive coilovers.. once again its not neccessary.. in most cases guys slam a car to stiffen it..all u are doing is making hte car dead.. u take out all the suspension travel and u take out the responsiveness to whats going on.. with some travel especially stock suspension u can feel the weight transfer and where the weight is going.. u can feel the moment the weight shifts when switching direction and when to get back on the gas to keep the drift going... u can feel when the car is about to over rotate and when to lift off throttle.. it gives the driver a lot more feedback.. at some point i may lower the car mostly for aesthetics. but to drift its not even needed at all...

if u watched that first vid i posted that guy in the gold s14 though it might not be as pretty.. that car is bone stock with an open diff and hes actually able to make it drift the whole course and make it into final rounds of competitions.. proof that drifting is all about the driver and not the car.. there were a handful of "drift" cars with sr20s and full coilovers and bull**** like that that didnt make the cut...

basically this car is going to be pretty close to stock with just the necessities and i intend on being competitive in our little mini comps and also be able to drift consistently in it... thats all i want from the s13..

lol im actually saving up for coilovers right now..the reason being is that my shocks are worn out and the rears are blown...id rather do coilovers instead of shocks/strutsive driven my friends 240 on tein basics and i love the ride.. and the feel...so thats y i really want them and i also hate body roll lol.

I asked Chris if he welds diff's but he didn't recommend italthough i haven't driven a 240 with a welded diff. i think it would be most beneficial to me at this point..Ive read up good bit about people that use their welded daily and they all find it fine.

im trying to wait until i at least get my coils and get my diff. problems sorted outbefore i enter a drift prac day.the only anther obstacle is convincing my mother to let me enter..considering the fact that im still 17...lol

oh yeah.. i also gotta get my auto swapped to 5 speed but i can get by with the auto.. for the time being..

About the Drift Prac. Dat in Greenville earlier this year.. i loved it..i woulda given anything to actually be out their driving...

who beat u? what?

yeah welded diffs have a bad rep.. yeah they will break eventually but so do lsds.. last year i broke ring and pinions and lsds in my ae86 about 4 times.. on a stock bluetop engine making less than 100whp.. but for the most part.. welded diffs dont last due to improper or crappy welds.. make sure its clean and make sure the welds are clean.. if chris wont do it i have a licensed welder who can do it for u pretty cheap..

automatic is a bit of a hurdle but the lexus in that vid was also an auto.. ive seen a few auto s14s do it too.

its true to a point that u can drift anything.. i could prolly take your car out do an event and make a few passes as it sits.. and u could take it as it sits and be able to learn a lot more than u know now about drifting at an event too.. we have one coming in august up here.. u should try to get out there with us.. if nothing else come over and take a ride with me.. being a home event.. ill have both my s13 and my ae86 out there.. u can ride in both to see the difference if ud like.just bring a helmet.

a welded diff is not as bad as everyone thinks....yes if its a clean weld it should last a long time, if it isnt...then uh oh..it will break on you...i have a welded difff...been good to be for couple months now...doesnt seem like any problems yet either..

just get a welded you girly...its the cheapest way to go until you get enough money later to buy a actual 2way..

glad you joined for forum. Its not to0 often a real driver such as yourself joins up. it does get frustrating when ricers pollute our motorsport. Nice cars and nice vids. Watching videos like those (amature comps) gets me super excited for my next event! next thursday for me. can't wait. again, welcome.

thanx for the warm welcome bro its good to see there are real drivers here like yourself too rather than the majority of e drifters i run across on the internet.'

yeah i like to watch stuff like that too to pump me up.. but when i get to events strange enough i almost never get out of the car.. at the ones like most of the vids i posted its a small number event so we dont have to do run groups we just line up in a staging lane line and run till the mini comp starts.. usually like 7 hours into the day the mini comps goes on for an hour then its back to free runs..

i like events like that.. hell the comp could not take place at all and id love it.. i just like the seat time.. being able to get out and get in 50 runs a day run tandem whenever.. we have actually had like 3 and 4 car tandem at these events.. total madness..lol.

to me THAT is what drifting is about not trying to be the top dog and when some useless plaque.. its about having fun with friends and seeing how far u can push it. its why i do it.. not cause its cool.. hell im east coast with the exception of seda events ever couple months there was no scene here 3 years ago. now we are blessed with an event and sometimes 2 a month out here on the east coast.. theres enough now that u actually have to pick and choose.. true u tend to have to drive 3 hours to get to one.. but when u love it.. the trip is part of the sport.

where i live now theres no one that goes to events with me.. one friend 30 minutes away from me actually goes and thats it.. im cool with it.. i was cool with it when i didnt meet up with him.. i would love to see some of the guys here actually jump in and get a taste of what it is REALLY about and hopefully share the interest. i openly welcome anyone here anytime theres an event or anything.. ill offer whatever help or advice i can give.. anyone goes to drift events will tell u that.. i put the word out wherever however and try to encourage as many people to try it as possible..

enough rambling.. thanx for the welcome.. hope to see more members pursue it the right way and find out what its really about.

well ive seen him do diffs for turbo 240s that hold up perfectly fine.. still havent had mine done.. i been working on sliding it open diff i can link corners now and even finese it into a large donut without the lsd which is impossible in an ae86.haha. if u dont have a lsd in those cars all u can do is slide... u cant actually drift them. u can initiate a powerslide into or around a corner but it doesnt last long and linking it to another corner is almost non existent.. in the 240 however.. i can link 3-4 corners back to back with ease on a certain mtn i run from time to time. which impresses me that the car is that willing to drift even on bone stock 1989 parts..lol.

honestly though I havent had time to pull mine to have it welded.. its really simple to be honest. i just havent gotten around to it. i found a vlsd for cheap but havent been able to get in touch with him. im not sure however i like viscous lsd after seeing how they work and all. i dunno im still feeling it out. yeah im on the list as #4 on the spartanburg event. ill see u there man.
