What Up Fellas!!

I've been reading the threads in the forum for a few weeks. I've had a coupe since Nov. and i love it!!!!!!! I had an 06 maxima prior to the coupe. I never was really interested in modifying my cars except for wheels but with the coupe (and to be honest, from you guys) I'm starting to get the ITCH!!!! Now, like I said I never done anything to my car except wheels. So I am interested in an exhaust, intake and springs. My problem is that I definitely want to put 20's so I'm not so sure how the springs will affect that. Again, I apologize if this has already been addressed but now that I'm registered I can now ask these retarded questions.

Thanks Fellas!!

Welcome aboard.

As for retarded questions .... we all started somewhere ...... (So you get 5 free, then we start to charge, especially if there's a thread on the subject ... )

And, finally, when it comes to the wheels, lots of threads on the subject, but your decision needs to come down to the following: Tire Size and Offset.

What you need to do is try to size to te stock tire size if you're interested in odometer acuracy. If the tires are smaller than stock, your odometer will show you going faster than you really are (unscientific measurements indicate about 1-2 mph for the first .5 inch, not sure it this scale linear or not.). The bigger the overall size, the more your odo will be off in the opposite direction.

Many of us have gone 19" or 20" and just adjusted the tire height to accomodate springs (not really intentionally, but none-the-less, you should consider it when chosing to lower or not.) The more tire height you have on top of wheel size will limit your ability to drop or not, along with the offset.

From what i've seen on the threads, best safe offset is +45 on the wheels for a drop, but there are NICO members who have as little as +35 Offset and have dropped their rides.

Here are a few threads on the subject that might help:

1) Discussion on Wheel Size choice:zerothread/313502

2) Sizing Guide/Discussion:zerothread/306835http://forums.nicoclub ... ?id=315198

3) Concerns/Experiences about dropping:zerothread/315692http://forums.nicoclub ... ead/315616

4) Eibach Group Buy (In Progress right now):zerothread/309984

5) Installation Help:zerothread/313730

Eibach Proline Springs rate a 1.5 inch drop in the front, 1 inch in the back.

There's a lot on this forum on the subject. Hope this helps,-- Wind

P.S. - Take your time, check twice, don't get caught with a Wheel/Tire/Srping combination that won't work.

Welcome and I hope you have as much fun here as we all do! Windhaven is correct in his statement of try to stay close to the original stock tire size. By doing this your odometer won't be off.

Here's a link to help you in choosing the right tire size for your coupe. Stock is 215/55/17 (if you have the 3.5). So if you're gonna go for a bigger rim, 18,19 or 20, This site will help out a lot! I can't tell you how many times I've used it!

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Additionally, Here's another link to help you in choosing the correct offset for your wheels. Stock (on a 3.5 alloy) is 17x7.5 +45 offset. Depending on what wheels you choose, this site will help you in deciding.

http://www.driftworks.com/reso....html

For example, compared to stock, if you got a 8.5 width with a +35 offset, the wheels will stick out 22.5MM further than stock and 2.5MM less on the inside (closest to the strut). Keep in mind 25MM is an inch. With this setup, the wheels will be almost flushed to the outside fender.

Use both sites in unison as you will read in other threads, both the rim width/ offset and tire size (215, 225, 235, etc) will determine if you will rub if and when you drop your coupe! Good Luck and don't forget to post picks!

Well, Thanks so much for that information! I actually read it all but I'm still at the same spot. I definitely have a better understanding but I'm not any clearer on what to do. The problem that I have is that the rims I want only come in 20s and up, so if it came down to it i would have to go with just the rims. I Really want to lower the car though. I love the look!!!

Thanks for all the help guys!
