sorry to run this topic again

got a few question between 19 and 20s

a guy at a rim shop told me - better run 20 instead of 19s or somewhere will be short or something wasn't really paying attention at that moment

and i know there's a difference in tire price

if i run 20s with pro-kit tire size without having problems?

bugging the hell out of me cuz all the rims i like goes only up to 19s

just want to make sure before doing anything stupid

It's all going to depend on your tire size. In my case, I went with 19's, and used 245/35 tires. IMHO, I really need 255/40 or 265/40 to make things perfect.

If you go with 20's plan on a lower profile tire, 19's need a slightly higher profile.

Two cents,-- Wind

20 are a little cheaper and 20" tires are easier to find if you should have to find a tire. ( on the road )

I agree, ebay prices for 19" tires are expensive... if you get a flat and have to go to a tire shop and get a brand new 19" tire, expect to pay $350 - $400+ for one tire installed! I got all four of my 20" Nankang NS-II tires installed for $500 out the door! You do the math!

FYI, my 19's (Tire) cost me $110 a piece. It's a matter of searching.

General Exclaim UHP's.

BTW - On the small subject, I'm interested in people thoughts on what the impact is running too small or too big.

Most that I've talked to say that the only real impact is the odometer effect, otherwise, it's purely aesthetics.

I agree, personally, i'd prefer 40's on mine, but the 35's don't effect anything material IMHO.

Thoughts?

no, you're 100% correct, its purely the odometer that's affected. Ride quality wise, the side walls on my tires and your tires are the same thickness, so the ride is probably exacly the same!

a matter of searching so you have to look all over hell to find a deal or just find the right size 20's are ten times easier to find

No argument here, 20's are easier, my concern is that a blanket statement of 18 vs. 19 vs. 20 shouldn't be made. It's down to what you like is what you like, size often is a second factor (as you know, many wheels don't come in all sizes 15" --> 24"), so if you like a wheel and it happens to be a 19, you shouldn't set it aside for a totally different wheel just because it's a 19" and doesn't come in a 20"......

The tires come second, and given the above statement, I am challenging the hypothesis that you should plan on a $300/tire bill if you go the 19" route. BTW - did a little research, found Falken 452's for $150 without a real challenge, 15 minutes of effort turned up a pile of tires between $135 and $220. I'd bet if I put in 15 more minutes I could find more.....

As for speed or effort and such, I think that if this is a beef between a one stop shop (i.e. TireRack.com) versus 15 - 30 minutes of digging a bit (on the internet, which I did earlier), I think that there's very little difference in the two. (IMHO).

The goal should be to get the wheel you want and be willing to do a little searching for the right tire at the right price. Tires are a commodity, it's supply and demand that generally run things, and you also find that in general, there is a wide variance in price between different dealers. (Found the Falken F452's for anywhere between $150 and $220+).

Basically, purchasing anything expensive shouldn't be a race, do a little research and I think you'll find you can save a bunch ..... enough for a set of springs, a dash kit, a grill .....

i order my 19s last week with tires i got 245/35/19

and i paid 1149 for the rims tires lugs balanced shiped.

and i got the general explain uhp lol

which is a great tire.tirerack.com rated it #2 in the high performance class.

and going with 245/35/19 barly effects your odometer

heres the results:

stock tire:diameter-26.2revs/mile-771.0

245/35/19 tire:diamter-25.8revs/mile-783.0

with the 245/35/19 tires when your speed ometer reads 60mph you are actully going 59.1mph

this is in referance of an 07 altima sedan 2.5s

i used this website to come up with these numbers:http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Interesting, the stock tires on the 3.5 coupe is 26.3" and from my calculations, without rounding, 245/35/19 tires are 25.75" Every half inch counts when it comes to the odometer/speedometer.

I have an Avic D3 hooked up to my speed sensos wire, so the D3 tells me exactly how fast I'm going... with my 245/35/20 wheels, the diameter is 26.75"...and at 70mph, my speedometer is off by at least 2-3mph!

Nick,

Tires only? Or wheels and tires? I sold my OEM's after I got the new set, got about 600 for them.

As for tires only , you could probably get half the retail price for them on the open market, but frankly I haven't seen anybody that was impressed by them to date.

I'm not sure about 255's, but folks on here have +24 offset wheels with 245's...as far as sticking out from the wheel well, that combo is about the same as running +35 offset on 255's.

Look into Nexten N3000 19" tires. I'm getting them mounted & installed today for $126 a piece. They're Korean with a cool tread and good for around 60,000 miles.

SO the total price will only be ~500 rigt? If so, that's a damn good price for 19" tires, tinstalled. That's the exact price I got my Nankang NSII 20" installed for... good job on finding a good deal ... are those Y rated tires?

Those with 245/35/20 or another size 20"-- do you have any issues with rubbing or fitment?

Doc, with your 245/35/20 your speedometer reads 2-3 miles higher or lowers than what you are actually traveling at? Any issues with fitment or rubbing? How far do those suckas stick out from the wheel well- if any?

Technically speaking, I could get 245/35/20 or 245/35/19 or 245/35/18 and be ok? But the larger- the more off my odometer would be?

Is gas mileage affected by larger/smaller tires? How much?

Thanks guys, finally getting the tire sizes and whatnot down.

no issues with rubbing or fitment...I have +35 offset 20 x 8.5" with a 1.5" drop in the front and 1" drop in the rear Eibachs)

how far off your speedometer reads depends on how fast you're going... at 72mph, my speedometer only reads 70.. (I know I'm going 70 because the nav unit hooked up to the speed sensor wire is spot on, but the speedometer is based off of tire revolutions not the speed sensor!

245/35/20 is close to fact specs (.35 inches off), 245/35/19 is 1" too small , and 245/35/18 is 2 inches too small... when you go with smaller wheels, you need a high profile tire, i,e, larger sidewall

so 245/40/19 is spot on!

If you have 18's, and want 245 wide tires, you need 45 profile tires (245/45/18)

and yes, gas mileage is affected... wider tires means more tire in contact with the road, which means lower gas mileage to overcome the slight increased coefficient of friction...

the decreased gas mileage is also due to the extra weight of the wheels , but that's from a different factor!

They are Y rated, and the only reason it's a good deal, is cuz it's a bunch of good ole' boys running an operation with no overhead in the ghetto. Basically three walls, a bunch of tires, necessary equipment and alot of razorwire surrounding the place. They've been there for years. A wheel geek at Stillen recommended the 19's, cuz supposedly the coupe's springs will settle about an inch in a year or so, so the 20's are risky after that....... somethin' so think about. http://www.nouglytire.com is where I got the tires.
