just did a dohc ka swap to ca18det swap in 17 hours

included pulling everything from the clippullin the kaquick clean of the engine baythen take a power nap for three hoursend up with this 17 hours later

this started at about 8:00pm friday night, ended about 8pm sat night

i deducted 3hours for sleep and 4 hours for going to eat at a restourant and taking the transmission off the ca and trying to put my ka clutch in but didnt work so we deducted that because it really wasnt nessesary

somehow between 8pm to 9:30am i sourced a downpipe, j pipe, hks bov, and boost gague and testpipe.

i dont know why it takes you guys so long to do your stupid swaps

i would never have been able to do this with the help of lots of people though.

**next day***tonight i took it for a nice drive

in 5th at 3000rpm the thing goes 95kmph. It has ****ty gearing. I did manage to boost to 12.5 psi in 4th and fifth. Thing runs really rich still.still have that whistling when i get into boost, and no its not the spoolupgona re-do the vacume lines on the weekend.

also need a sohc throttle body cause the dohc is too long and we had to make a custom mount for now

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT WOULD BE CAUSING MY WHISTLING?

12.5 psi isnt giving you much benefit at all with the stock CA turbo

put on a SR T25 then try 12 psi

Is your BOV asjusted properly? I know that mine whistles sometimes because it always leaks (damn recurric required ARC).

No offense, but your little comment on how long it takes all of us to get our "stupid" CA swaps done is not entirely accurate. I did mine in about the time it took you and ran off the first crank

Whistling=BOV too loose. Tighten it.

and i'll say it again... KA clutch does work. I've used two of them now. Honestly its so straightforward I don't understand how people have trouble with it!

Hank, how do you like that clutch? I've got a SPEC Stage III and I'm not real happy with it. It grips alright, but I don't like the pedal feel and it didn't last very long last time either.

you can weld aluminum, just have to have aluminum rod.. and generally be welding to aluminum, though there are exceptions.

Did you guys ever think about how much more you have to slip the clutch on a low torque engine like the ca as compared to the ka? I know my clutch takes a lot more abuse now than it did on my ka...

Yea, I've noticed. A lightweight flywheel makes it worse. I killed it like 3 times last night trying to take off. I've got to wind it up higher now than before. It revs so much free'er now though...

I hate trying to drive my car from a stop when cold. My uber clutch (still don't know the brand haha) has zero feel cold, and when warm, HATES HATES HATES to be slipped. But damn if she don't hold. I ahd thought about getting a JUN flywheel, but F-that.

Hey jjwilks240, Do you still have the clip? If so, can I have your Vacuum resivoir? It's over on what would be the passenger side in the US. Behind the strut tower.

Well, I would assume it has to do with tools, resources, and experience.

BTW, how much did you get your clip for?

thats 100% true. I could get on here and ask how the hell it took YOU 17 hours to do your stupid swap (especially with all that help you had). Put yourself in the position of someone who has no real previous car experience, and don't kid yourself. This isn't a hard swap for someone with the right tools and experience. A clean chassis (like yours) helps out alot too (less rusted bolts and dirty stuff).

Now go replace a cracked piston in an afternoon (cough... done it ) and I'll be more impressed! Not to downplay your achievement, but try being a little more subtle in your wording of things. It could easily piss people off, you came accross as arrogant.

Honestly thats why I went with an SR in my S14, but I still like the CA.

One might find it's way into an S13 here shortly dunno.

You can get the CA to launch with power just fine! You've just got to work the motor a little bit. I rarely get beaten on a launch with my CA. But I also rev it to 4K and slip the clutch like crazy. The CA just requires a little finesse to drive, thats all..
