In all seriousness though. Yes, 5% tint is a tad hard to see at night. You get used to it. I feel more comfortable in a car that people can't be looking into all the time

MaksimSF,try actually reading someone else's post and understanding what tint percentage means before you post sarcastic comments.

Also, try learning how to use the quote feature so you don't have 3 useless consecutive posts that nobody wants to read.

Just food for thought...

So, I shopped around for tint, and came across some interesting things:

1. You shouldn't use metallic based tint if you have navigation and/or radio antennae built into your back windshield.

2. There is non-metallic tint available by llumar called the AT, the ATR is metallic. So you can get your windows done with the ATR and the back windshield done with the AT.

3. Madico also makes a non metallic tint film which is "charcoal". It looks slightly green, but when you apply it, the color is greyish black, or so the tint guy says.

4. Last option for non metallic tint is ceramic tint, which is ridiculously over priced.

I was quoted $179 for option 2. $200 for option 3. and $389 for option 4. What do you guys think???

I went with Solar Guard's Metallic quantum Tint, 28%... lifetime fade and color change warranty, also is "scratch resistant"...In addition, you can see out of 5% Quantum tint better than you can see out of 35% regualar charcoal tint. HUGE benefit of going with metallic vs non metallic. Also, my metallic tint didn't interfere with my radio or GPS either.

I went with 25% on driver and passenger and 5% on the rear windows. Believe me, the 5% is dark enough that it'll make the 25% look dark during the day. Just check out my sig below. And at night, the tint is so bad that I can't see when I'm parallel parking (but then again the rear view cam helps out too). But hey, it's your car and license. I would of guess that in Cali, the laws on tinted windows would be more stringent then some other parts of the US.

Not flaming you just giving my opinion.

What are the other benefits of metallic versus non-metallic tint? Should I just go with option 2? It's cheaper, but the shop is in a very ghetto area...

Got pulled a week ago. Never said anything about the tint.... and the tint laws in cali are 70% front and anything anywhere else. Cops are pretty chill around here.

That black line on your windshield is the no fly zone... you can paint above that line.. but nothing can be obstructing the road below that line... no tint, fuzzy dice, obnoxious cds with a flag on them that blind me when i pass you... etc...
