First time 4x4 owner, bought a 2001 pathy , seems like a rock. Im a reasonable back yard mechanic even more so with wicked forums to increase my knowledge

Not much experience with steering, particularly HD 4x4 stuff, so im at a loss determining the fault.

Bearings were loose, so they have een repacked thanks to Empty V how-to-replace-brake-rotors-and-pads-fo ... 45492.html

With car switched off, my partner moving the steering wheel left to right about 25deg, you can hear the same sound as when driving. Looking underneath using a stethoscope im unable to determine the exact point the sound is coming from. Aswell as a knock sound there is also a small movement involved at the same time. Holding left or right tie rods, you can feel the noise as it is audible (same amount each side)

My fear is that is coming from inside the gear linkage assembly
