I wish I had that kind of time to work on my S13. At this rate, I'll be finished with it by the time my 16mo old is ready for his driver's license. Nice paint work on the motor. I like the combo.

Hey everyone! Its been awhile since my last post! Ive accomplished quite a bit as well! So lets get into it!
All body panels are on now,

Image

and the wet sanding has begun (almost finished now but this was a pic of the first round, still have clear to lay)

Image

Then I took the gauge cluster apart and pulled all the guts out and used a dremel to fit my custom bezel for new gauges, I'm thinking intellitronix or perhaps making a touchscreen interface instead...

Image

Image

I purchased some dry ice and removed most of the sound deadening, then covered the floors, trunk, and everywhere in bed liner.

Image

Image

Then there was an issue with my trans...it wouldn't shift at all after I mated the KA bell housing to the SR tail shaft...so I removed the bell housing to find the shifter forks were misaligned (the middle fork was halfway engaged with the shifter linkage settled in the top fork making even neutral feel locked up), Im guessing i knocked them around a little trying to put the bell housing back together, seems fine now though.

Image

Which brings us up to today, I started on the wiring, got the headlights and tail light home runs ran so far.

Image

Image

idk if i ever got a pic of the ISR so here it is.

Great progress man! Love the paint color you chose, I can't wait to see it when it's been fully cleared :yesnod

On a side note - did you just hammer the sound deadener out with a normal hammer, or did you use a brass one to avoid smashing up the floors too much? Need to do this to my car, but I'm waiting for it to get a bit cooler out.

you can chisel the sound deadening out, but you're gonna scar up the metal, I've chiseled it out in my e30 before and that stuff was thin and easy no problem, this stuff isn't as old and is a lot thicker, so i ended up buying some dry ice from the local grocery. just crush the dry ice up and spread it around. a lot of people like to add isopropyl alcohol to the mix to create a sorta cryo-paste. wait like 15 min or so and glues that bonds the deadening will have released and you can pick it all up in giant chunks. I didn't use any isopropyl alcohol in mine but i also sat there for another two hours with a chisel cuz some spots were stubborn. also, my town had a major power outage so the town ran out of dry ice! but what i did manage to buy the last 10lbs for just $10 after the outage due to the sale price! they say it'll take you about $30-40 worth of dry ice, id recommend getting a solid 20lbs of the stuff just to be sure. i also didn't take it off of the rear wheel arches. hope that helps!

Super helpful -- thank ya :yesnod My interior looks like the prev owner left it out in a dust storm with the windows down, so I have a lot of work cut out for me. Ah, well .. that's what I get for buying a half-finished project.

Long time no see! I've since got the engine back in the car with a new o-ring on the oil pickup tube and new rear main. Also ordered a brute force flywheel and exedy clutch kit for a d21 and installed it with the new pilot bushing! Trans is all back together now too and should be mating them up this weekend. I sold the GTR wheels and got some 35th anniversary 5 spoke z33 wheels. Just needing my j30 front brakes and s14 inner tie rods and front bushings and I'm on the road! Here's some new pics... trying to figure out which hosting service to use...

not sure why those pictures linked up. those weren't the ones I was trying to post. those gauges are OEM gauges with custom mounting plates and SpeedHut gauges. ive got my gauge cluster gutted and planning to do this, already got the mounting plate.

I got the differential in! its the j30 6 bolt with 240 shafts and shimmed twice over with new whittling bushings and fresh gear oil and posi additive! I think it was 75-90 weight oil(?) I used. I am worried a little bit cuz I used ace hardware bolts to secure it and I think theyre only like grade 8 maybe even lower grade ill have to double check. went to put the axles in after that and realized my ARP bolts I ordered didn't fit, theyre bolts with nuts and no threads on any of it. I was able to track down 6 of the 12 bolts so I matched those up with another set from my work and popped those in.

Image

also I decided to just buy a used engine harness off a buddy of mine so im tightening all that up right now on the engine. AND I bought new J30 front calipers, rotors, and pads for the thing but quickly discovered bolting the caliper bracket on was pulling the bracket into the rotors face. keep in mind I bought this entire "j30 5 lug swap" for $80 off craigslist and they came with new energy polly bushings still in the packaging which are like $60 by themselves. so turns out the rears are fo so j30 hubs, the front however is confusing everyone I ask. the spindles I THINK are J30, BUT no one knows what hubs I have on them. The spindles have been cut at the tip, and they fit my s13 lower ball joints perfectly. so that makes me believe they are J30. they fit my s14 tie rod ends if it makes a difference to anyone reading this. I have had the hubs off and the j30 wheel bearings fit them perfectly. and they have shims someone put behind the hub, so that and the cut tips of the spindle combined with a finned style oem Nissan hub lead me to believe this was a J30 spindle/ s14 hub Frankenstein'd spindle, BUT then the j30 brakes should fit... and everyone I talk to that has performed extensive 240 work has told me these hubs are too long, defiantly not s14, and they think possibly even the rear hubs off some FWD car??? anyone ever heard of such a thing? at any rate, everything bolts up fine, and if I put 3 washers on each caliper bolt to space the caliper out it works perfectly... so I think im just going to have a friend of mine make some caliper bracket spacers for me to run since everything seems to be working fine together other wise. and I have to buy caliper bracket bolts anyhow so no worried in that regard.

Image

Image
IGNORE the wheel spacers it was before I had brake money and I had to roll it around somehow on z wheels lol

Image

so that about wraps things up! not too much left now! got the front brakes, got the diff and axles in, got engine wired up... that just leaves.... oil, trans fluid, vac lines, intake and MAF, O2 sensor, weld the exhaust up, install solid diff bushings, ignition coil, coolant, fuel lines to engine, run accessory wiring for fuel pump, fan system (two stage relay to sensor no switch :naughty: ), lighting and wiper wiring, put distribution block together for said wiring, get a battery, either buy new gauges or get those SpeedHut gauges im setup for already, get an alignment, and uhhh yeah thats it really to be drivable!

oh and idk if I mentioned it but sold that audi and used some of it to buy my first bike. just a lil ninja 250 and its been a blast!
