I went down to the auto skills center here on post and spent about 2 hrs installing my new mounts. Everything actually went really well, and I didn't run into any real problems. I used the screw jacks the lift the engine and move the old mounts out, and the new ones went in without any trouble.

This is my first time using aftermarket mounts, and am not sure what to think just yet. On first start up I noticed a BIG increase in vibrations, but I expected a little increase. My old mounts were so worn that I could move the engine and trans around by hand. Not so much now that I've installed the new mounts. I have noticed a significant improvement in handling, and no more shifter bounce, as well as less noise from the rear end. So, there have been some positive improvements.

Though my big question is does the vibration lessen over time as the mounts get broke in? This car is my daily driver and it's almost too much right now with all the vibration and random rattles due to the increased vibes.

Blasted.... Thats what i was affraid of. I'm going to give them a few weeks and try and track down the more annoying dash squeaks and hums. Plus the door hums and rattles. Maybe I'll adapt to it. If not then I guess I'll resell the motor mounts and get stock ones, but i'm keep'n the trans mount.

Though it seems that some of the really insane vibes have went away with driven it for about an hr. So, that makes me a lil happy.

just a thought, probably wrong

on stock mounts it would take some of the movement but your stuck when you get stiff mounts.

Does anyone know are the nismo ones any softer? I got the megan's cuz they were a lot cheaper, and I've had pretty decent luck with their stuff in the past.

If you want something soft, get oem mounts. lol

They didn't seem to be that bad right? After all, they lasted 15 years.

I'm willing to say all aftermarket 240sx motor mounts are noticeably stiffer than stock.

Yeah I'm used to small block V-8's and have only been into the import world for a few years. I shoulda known any thing listed as stiffer and still streatable would be crazy. Streetable is all a matter of perspective. Oh well, ive and learn I guess.

Vibration can be annoying but a solidly mounted drive train is a beautiful thing in all other regards.

Yeah that's why I'm think'n with a few weeks driving and just eliminating random rattles and stuff i can get used to the vibrating pedals and steering wheel. I def. like the more solid steering and a shifter that doesn't bounce like a ball.

dont worry you'll get used to the extra vibrations. took me a while but now i kinda prefer the extra vibe. but i still hate the noise the dash makes never found a way to stop that.

Yeah I gotta under the dash I'm missing a few nuts/screws/whatever holds the blower motor and stuff in place and I think that's some of my noise. It was there before the new mounts, and it's def. worse now.

Oh and here in about 10-15yrs these ones should loosen up real nice too

Yeah I have the nismo motor mounts and the damn car sounds like its gonna fall apart! But I started poking around the interior and located the source of the most rattling, which was my passenger door compartment. When I pressed on it, the vibration went away.

So I went to an auto parts store and bought some rubber bumper kit for doors and trunks and stuck them in the gaps in the plastic and its alot better. Just find the source of the loudest rattling and plug that b*tch!

Hmm alot of people complain about rattles with 240s..is it a common problem with just them? 2 Previous cars ive daily driven were a 1992 Nissan 300zx N/A and a 1992 3000gt N/A, they seemed to not have any major annoying "rattles"

also, in a few weeks, loosen the mounting nuts, then retighten... the engine will have settled the mounts a little... they shift a little lower.

My 93 240 had been taken care of reasonably well by both of the previous owners and has very few rattles. On the other hand, what we're talking about is basically bolting the engine straight to the frame so that there's no slop in that part of the drive train. Try this, pop your hood and have someone start your car with stock mounts, and even new, you'll probably notice some movement of the engine within the bay. On old bushings it'll probably be pretty pronounced. The downside to solidly mounting the engine is that any vibrations put off by the engine are no longer absorbed by the soft isolating factory mounts and are instead transmitted to every other part of the car. Causing anything that is loose to buzz like the most annoying fly ever. This seems most pronounced at lower engine speeds like idle.

yeah my 93 3000gt VR-4 and my 91 eclipse GSX never had any rattles.... Though they both had like 400+ fasteners per panel and took an act of congress to get apart. My 240 is 5 screws and a few clips. Not as much holding the Nissan's together.

Hey, start your own thread and don't hi-jack mine please. There's plenty of threads addressing solid mounts and the like if you use the search engine "smooth runner"

I have solid aluminum ones and I'm used to it, man up! Actually when I installed my coilovers the vibes got lower I guess because of the absoption from the dampers. At idle I have no vibes but its real bad around 3k and goes away again above 5. I love having a solid drivetrain though.

Yeah the worst of the vibrations seem to have passed. The worst is on a cold morning, then I get a lot of harshness, but once it's about 45 or warmer its not too bad. My vibrations seem at their highest around 2k-2.5k then go away idle is good now, and highway is decent. Not like stock mounts, but hey they're supposed to be stiffer anyways.

Right now, I'm working tracking down those elusive vibrations in the dash, doors, and rear panels. I need to get invest in some jute backing for carpet and some other materials to help cut down on the resonance in the thin plastic panels and where they touch stuff.

Who are the people saying a 240 rattles a lot? lol, My hatch is an 89 and it has zero rattles. The only time it does is when a black plastic panel comes loose. Then I just slam it back into place.

The interior of these cars are so simple, there's barely anything to rattle in the first place.

And if something is rattling, the culprit is usually a broken clip.

Yeah whats kill'n me right now is some weird squeaking noise in the dash sounds like an old mattress. lol Then I have a random window vibe/rattle when the cars at certain rpms that I never had before the new mounts. However, when you start adding more engine noise through the frame/body of the car that's gonna happen.

I do love how simple the interiors are on these cars couple clips and a few screws and that's it.

Fill your oem mounts with this:PL premium polyurethane construction adhesive.

http://www.buy.com/prod/henkel....html

The trans mount responds the best. If you give it ample dry time it works even better! I had to drive it within 30 hours of application though, still stiffened things up a lot more than stock.

IIRC home depot carries it.

Yeah the mounts have softened up, and are pretty pleasant in the warmer weather. I got rid of the stock mounts when I installed the Megan's. Though, it still feels like a vibrator some days in the cold. lol
