your info says you are in NYC.

So far I havent been beaten by any coupes or Sedans. But then again, Ursus is the only M/T Sedan I know of that is in SD from time to time, and as for coupes, all the ones i've raced have been 3.5CVT. I wont even waste my gas if I see a 2.5 on the back

NM, I just saw it says you are in Long Beach / NYC

Ill be up in Irvine tomorrow, Not sure if Robert will be or not

Big Rob, AKA Doc #1

I have an option to replace my stolen Z2 with a:

Z3 or the Kenwood joint.

I'm bigger on Nav stuff than Audio/visuals and I'm not a big fan of Garmen navs.

What would you do?

LOL> Maybe I answered my own question.

Doc #2.

OK, nav wise, its a toss up... the Avic Units are NOt as accurate as the Garmin/kenwood Units, however, you have MUCH better graphics and screens in the Avic Units! Also, as you know, you can have the dual view when navigating (rear view cam + nav)... that isn't available in the Kenwood...

so, if you aren't into the immense A/V superiority of the Kenwood unit, and don't care about how accurate the Nav units are, then I say go with Avic...

Oh yeah, the Avic has 12 million POI as opposed to the 6 million with the kenwood... often times, when I try to search for something with the Kenwood unit, I can't find it ... + 1 for the Avic!

All that to say, for you, go with the Avic!

Thanks big dog.

Yeah, one of the best things I loved about the Z2 is the camera mode where you can see behind you while driving. The backup camera view is nice, but when driving at night or in the rain, having a back view of the road is a great feature to have.

So, there you go. Stick a fork in me, I'm done!

Avic ZTripple!

Thanks man,MAD

Gotta love the POIs too. Can't go wrong with either one.In terms of accuracy, hell, it's much accurate than me...lol. The key with navs is don't follow blindly. I'm sure you guys heard of the cats that almost drove off a cliff following a nav system...lol.

I love the interface, the features sound really nice, and a couple things are built in (so you don't have to buy them separately), but I don't think they have the duel rear-nav view and the screen resolution, although it looks nice on YouTube, is not as high rez as the Z series.

I also like the design (controls, nobs, etc) and the fact that you can adjust the color (lights and stuff) to match the other interior lights.

But, I would def go for one if I didn't only have to pay 300 for the Z3. The insurance is paying the rest.

I got a nissan altima 09' coupe w/ bose system. Unfortunately nav didn't come w/ it since I got the 6speed manual. Spec'n out the Kenwood 8120 (exelon) right now.

Also when's the tv-tuner coming out?

Does the wheel converter (PAC- SWI-JACK) work for the bluetooth that's integrated on the steering wheel? I tried calling around but crutchfield.com wasn't too sure. Ugh......

Tnx

digital TV tuner is coming out this year, don't know exactly when.... the pac-swi jack will NOT preserve bluetooth function on your steering wheel... that's the only thing you lose

i bought my first one when they first came out from my store for 1250.. I purchased this last one off ebay.. I actually went with the DDX812 and the add on Kenwood navigation... they threw in a bonus rear view camera which I have facing forward.... total price for all of that was ~ 950 shipped

I bought my 8120 on EBay. It's a refurb, but I bought the 2 year square trade warranty. I got the 8120, xm interface and xm reciever for $865. Doc installed it Saturday and it rocks. Thanks again, Doc.

... no problem John.now we just gotta get that steering wheel interface to work... I'm sure its just a connection somewhere! Maybe next time I'll drive to Yuma... if I can ever find a decent time off... I wouldn't mind taking a trip over to Arizona!

Wow doc, you replaced with another unit now> You have gone through 3 or 4 units within a year.

Do you recommend DDX812? I'm planning to get JL audio amps, subs and rear speakers. Thanks.

NO, this is just my second unit.. the DNX-8120 got destroyed during the last break in... instead of getting the DNX-8120 to replace it, I simply got the DDX-812 with the KNA-G5120 navigation system.... it is 99.99% the same interface and options as the DNX-8120. There is only one difference of the hundreds of functions, and NO- ONE on this forum knows Kenwood well enough to ever tell the difference... so basically I got a new DNX-8120 for all intents and purposes

thanks doc. So this DDX812 is pretty much the same as DNX8120? If I don't want Nav, then DDX812 would be a best choice for me. Does it come with 5v preamp output just like DNX8120?

Yes, if you don't want Nav, then the DDX812 is still a very good choice... the DDX812 is EXACTLY like the DNX8120 minus the Navigation, EVERYTHING audio wise is the same... and then, if you ever decide to get the nav, you can just plug it in simple plug and play addition! (PLus connecting the power, ground, yellow contant power, and light green parking brake/ground wire)

thanks doc. I saw a refurbished DNX8120 for $750 on Ebay. Is it worth to get a refurbished unit?

imo, yes... a refurb unit is back to factory specs... will have the newest firmware, and is a great deal with the square trade warranty

When I bought mine, there is a little green box that says square trade near the bottom of the listing page. Just click on it. It was around $74 for the first year and $34 for the second year. Definitely worth the price.

I got mine from hifiaudioonline for $750 and free shipping. I didn't see one in their store for this price, but megacarstereo has one for $750 with free shipping.

For those who have 8120 installed - is it flushed with surface or sticks out a bit?I'm not talking about tilt feature but the unit itself.I saw one installed with some aftermarket dash kit and it sticked out about quarter of an inch all around. Is it the way it is or is it because of the crappy dash?

its not the dash kit, its the unit...

you mentioned the tilt feature and that's exactly why it sits the way it sits. The mecahnism with which it works causes it to raise up a bit, and hit wierd angles... because of this, it does NOT fit smoothly like the Kenwood DNX5120, of like some of the pioneer units do.

There is no way to get it to slide back further.. the way it lines up with the holes on the side brackets that hold it together will ALWAYS cause it to stick out about 1/4" on all sides!
