OK, nav wise, its a toss up... the Avic Units are NOt as accurate as the Garmin/kenwood Units, however, you have MUCH better graphics and screens in the Avic Units! Also, as you know, you can have the dual view when navigating (rear view cam + nav)... that isn't available in the Kenwood...MadBlackCoupe wrote:Big Rob, AKA Doc #1
I have an option to replace my stolen Z2 with a:
Z3 or the Kenwood joint.
I'm bigger on Nav stuff than Audio/visuals and I'm not a big fan of Garmen navs.
What would you do?
LOL> Maybe I answered my own question.
Doc #2.

so, if you aren't into the immense A/V superiority of the Kenwood unit, and don't care about how accurate the Nav units are, then I say go with Avic...
Oh yeah, the Avic has 12 million POI as opposed to the 6 million with the kenwood... often times, when I try to search for something with the Kenwood unit, I can't find it ... + 1 for the Avic!
All that to say, for you, go with the Avic!

digital TV tuner is coming out this year, don't know exactly when.... the pac-swi jack will NOT preserve bluetooth function on your steering wheel... that's the only thing you losekatp wrote:I got a nissan altima 09' coupe w/ bose system. Unfortunately nav didn't come w/ it since I got the 6speed manual. Spec'n out the Kenwood 8120 (exelon) right now.
Also when's the tv-tuner coming out?
Does the wheel converter (PAC- SWI-JACK) work for the bluetooth that's integrated on the steering wheel? I tried calling around but crutchfield.com wasn't too sure. Ugh......
Tnx
i bought my first one when they first came out from my store for 1250.. I purchased this last one off ebay.. I actually went with the DDX812 and the add on Kenwood navigation... they threw in a bonus rear view camera which I have facing forward.... total price for all of that was ~ 950 shippedkuhan wrote:hey doc,
sorry if this has been asked before. Did you buy your dnx-8120 online? How much did you pay for it? Thanks.
... no problem John.now we just gotta get that steering wheel interface to work... I'm sure its just a connection somewhere! Maybe next time I'll drive to Yuma... if I can ever find a decent time off... I wouldn't mind taking a trip over to Arizona!Alien_Tracker wrote:I bought my 8120 on EBay. It's a refurb, but I bought the 2 year square trade warranty. I got the 8120, xm interface and xm reciever for $865. Doc installed it Saturday and it rocks. Thanks again, Doc.
Wow doc, you replaced with another unit now> You have gone through 3 or 4 units within a year.rjdmmfl1 wrote:

NO, this is just my second unit.. the DNX-8120 got destroyed during the last break in... instead of getting the DNX-8120 to replace it, I simply got the DDX-812 with the KNA-G5120 navigation system.... it is 99.99% the same interface and options as the DNX-8120. There is only one difference of the hundreds of functions, and NO- ONE on this forum knows Kenwood well enough to ever tell the difference... so basically I got a new DNX-8120 for all intents and purposeskuhan wrote:

Do you recommend DDX812? I'm planning to get JL audio amps, subs and rear speakers. Thanks.
Yes, if you don't want Nav, then the DDX812 is still a very good choice... the DDX812 is EXACTLY like the DNX8120 minus the Navigation, EVERYTHING audio wise is the same... and then, if you ever decide to get the nav, you can just plug it in simple plug and play addition! (PLus connecting the power, ground, yellow contant power, and light green parking brake/ground wire)kuhan wrote:thanks doc. So this DDX812 is pretty much the same as DNX8120? If I don't want Nav, then DDX812 would be a best choice for me. Does it come with 5v preamp output just like DNX8120?
imo, yes... a refurb unit is back to factory specs... will have the newest firmware, and is a great deal with the square trade warrantykuhan wrote:thanks doc. I saw a refurbished DNX8120 for $750 on Ebay. Is it worth to get a refurbished unit?
Alien_Tracker wrote:When I bought mine, there is a little green box that says square trade near the bottom of the listing page. Just click on it. It was around $74 for the first year and $34 for the second year. Definitely worth the price.
its not the dash kit, its the unit...Vital wrote:For those who have 8120 installed - is it flushed with surface or sticks out a bit?I'm not talking about tilt feature but the unit itself.I saw one installed with some aftermarket dash kit and it sticked out about quarter of an inch all around. Is it the way it is or is it because of the crappy dash?
