So I just bought a 1997 j30 146xxx miles, an old man was selling it and I picked it up for $300. I have been looking on the forum and I came to the conclusion that I need an alternator (brake, battery, and headlight indicator on dash, won't charge battery) no power steering so prob a pressure hose (when I poured fluid in the reservoir it poured all over the ground) knock sensor relocation (p0325 code due to lifter tap from car sitting for 5 months went away when I drove it a bit). Now here is the fun parts lol both of my rear doors won't unlock and when I try to manually unlock from inside there is resistance on the lock like it is jammed but it won't open. I tried using the unlock button and that didn't work either maybe the battery was too low? And only my driver side speaker works. Any onsite on these problems? Any help would be much appreciated.

Took a look at the FSM it has a lot of great info. Installed new alternator today, it took care of all lights on the dash. Battery charged reading 13.2v so all good. Didn't help with the rear doors tho
When I press unlock they move a little but don't unlock. Maybe the internals are jammed. Is there a way to remove the door panel with the door shut?

you might want to do a forum search, there have been a few posts about rear doors that didnt open...unfortunately I dont remember good outcomes...might want to look for a pair of used door panels just in case you have to cut them off....sounds like the doors are jammed...
But you might want to try replacing the door timer under the dash, that "might" solve your issue, since both of your doors are not opening.

After 2 hours and a lot of wd40 I got both doors opened. My guess is the previous owner didn't use the rear doors that often so the springs inside were bound up pretty good. First I had to remove the panels from inside with the door shut, after removing the plastic cup behind the door lock, 2 screws ( one in the valley of the pull handle, the other under the window switch) and the b pillar trim, I was able to pull it up quite easily. With the panel off you can see two thin rods running from the lock and handle to the door opening mechanism. If you look inside you can see where the outside handle attaches to a flat bracket. If you reach in and wiggle that bracket than push it all the way up your door should open.

Yup trying to get her all fixed up before Tues when the title comes in, also fixed the radio lights with a swift smack to the dimmer. Now I just need to find a knock sensor harness. Parts for this car are extremely elusive.

I would get a obd-ll code reader from advanced or auto zone and plug it in to see what codes you pull up. They are fairly cheap ($50-$75). For the door open light check all the buttons on the jams of the door. Is your battery good? Check the voltage.

OK only problem I have left is now the speakers. When I turn on the radio only the front drivers side speaker comes on. The other three have flickered on once so I know they are there. Does this sound like a relay or do I need a new head unit?

remove the speakers, look for separated cones, which can be glued back....
then ohm-test the wires from the speaker to the radio plug....
I have seen a post about a speaker relay somewhere on here, but since you have one that works...I am thinking it's wiring caused.

Do you think it may be the Bose unit itself? Once while playing with the volume knob they all came on for a second, but only when it was in the perfect position.

Yes it might be...
Get some electronic contact cleaner...pull off the volume knob and spray inside
