ok...car did the exact same thing...

when you turn it to on...i can here the fuel pump on ...pressurizes the system..then it stops...then i try to start it and it cranks and cranks but wont start....also i noticed that if i tap the gas a few times it will stutter some more like it wants to start and the rpm's will rise to about 900-1k (i stopped then)...so yea...ive had my nose in the fsm for the past two days but its rainin sumthin nasty over here so i havent been able to work on it (well it wasnt yesterday i just didnt get a chance to go out and mess w/ it)...

so does any of this sound familiar....help is GREATLY appreciated...

did you look at the plugs when you pulled them for the compression test? if you ever need another part to test, just let me know. I'll search thru my piles of parts for what you need.

That should help isolating the problem indeed, had the same problem recently, and the vacuum leak was located along the intake piping. Was actually the hose that allowed the car to trottle the was torn - was almost totally disconnected.

ok checked for spark...i have none in the first cylinder, barely any in the second cylinder, and PLENTY in the last two...also pulled the plugs to clean them and they were wet from fuel so im SURE i have fuel...also someone asked me where the cas was positioned...(if the bolts were in the middle or not), the bolts are all the way to the right...i didnt try adjusting it to get the car to start seeing as i was missing spark from 1 (well 2) cylinders...so what are your thoughts...u think the two cylinders getting not efuff/NO spark is why it wont start...also as far as the cas/timing it ran fine that way be4 (doesnt mean it was right)...i dont have a timing light..im gonna try to get one tomorrow...SO...anyone have sum COILPACKS

Sounds like a ground issue, but then again, that just plain sounds weird to me. I would be wary of the igniter as well.

Ok. so she started for me today...all i did was clean the plugs and set the timing to stock (cant remember the number off the top of my head- it was fully retarded though)...i still have a few thing i didnt check that i need too and i still have a few issues...ive been reading the fsm and learning alot so if anyone "new" to the forums is reading this, when sumone tells u to read the FSM...DO IT lol...anyway i have a few more issues that i plan to consult the Manual w/ but im gonna ask u all for you opinions anway..here goes:

Ok the original reason for this thread was that the car would not rev throught the rpm range smoothly..it was "jumpy" a few people told me it may be because i was running an open maf ..so i got a replacement maf (just in case) and a filter...but its still happening...any other suggestions??

Also, the car wilol only idle for a few minutes then the rpm will slow start bouncing up and down and the engine will die...I was reading a few post (including bios' new one) and it said people are running fpr's w/ there fuel pump..well i bought the car w/ a stock fpr and 255lhr walboro and it ran fine until now...u think that may be the problem...opinions appreciated...

Well thats about it...any help/advice is appreciated and i shall keep u updated....THANKS to all the people who have been helping me this far (i honestly was about to give up and pay sumone but u guys keep me thinkin positive)

dee ill email u

ok replaced the cas w/ one off of a DE fromteh local U-pull-it...went to set/check the timing..and realized my father in law had the oldskool/non digital timing gun/light...i have no idea how to read taht thing...but yea i put the cas in @ "the middle" setting and it idles perfect (bad cas was almost fully retarded for the car to idle right)....so yea i still need to check timing....

BUT...i cant win for losing lol...every once in a while the car sptters sounding like a wrx and power is noticably lower..its still boosts fine...just sluggish...it happens then goes away while driving...i saw a post on here about it so im gonna check that...and make sure my timing is correct...any sugeestions about the boxer sound/lack of power?? {PS it was doint this w/ the bad cas too...and i havent checked if the cas i bought was a good unit either as i didnt have my FSM w/ my @ my inlaws house-...just ASSUMING its good as the car idles fine now tho i still need to check the timing}

as always ill keep everyone updated

That sound is usually from some sort of timing problem. I still suspect a bad/weak ignitor or maybe a coil pack. Check the grounds again too.
