Love my car, had it for over 5 years with only little gremlins. Coming right up on 100,000 miles my clutch started making a weird grinding noise then a loud pop and my clutch hit the floor. Also heard some metal clanking on the concrete under my car. Limped it home with the clutch pedal on the floor.....no fluid in clutch cylinder, brake fluid smell, and a huge HOLE, in my bell housing right over the starter assembly.

Wtf? What causes this and has anyone ever heard of it happening? I have to wait till Tuesday to see a mechanic and its really bothering me.

Welcome to NICO!

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes! Can you post a photo for us to better understand what happened? (photos worth a thousand words, yadda yadda).

Did this failure happen while you were operating the clutch? How did you limp it home? Clutch-less shifting?
It sounds kinda like your throw out bearing or input shaft took a dump, but it isn't usually a catastrophic failure like that.. have you removed the transmission yet?

Yes it broke when I was pushing it in to shift to fourth....*pop*...and it hit the floor. I'll try to get some pictures up later.

As far as limping it home I just left it in 3rd, and tried not to stop.

Haven't pulled the trans yet

I'm betting its a snapped clutch fork.

Yeah but why would a broken shift fork break my bellhousing? That's another 500 dollar part, and I can't seem to find any used ones.
