Hello everybody, new guy here. I usually hang out on the 67-72 Chevy truck forum because I am restoring a 69 Chevy swb, but I recently acquired a 1974 Datsun pickup to battle the gas prices and also because I think these trucks are just all around cool. I got the motor running decently, but when I tore into the front suspension, I found some parts unobtainable. Namely the threaded bushings and the pin that goes in the lower outer control arm and also the upper inner threaded bushing and cross shaft for the upper control arm. If these parts are obsolete and I am unable to rebuild the current suspension, what do I do? I have read that some people put ball joint setups in these trucks. If so, what fits my truck. I would rather stay original but I'm up for anything that gets me back on the road reliably.

Kingpin sets are available from nissan, I believe they are around $80 a set (per side). Ball joint options would be 1.to get front suspension from a 78-79 620 with disc brakes or 2. get a custom upper control arm and basically the front suspension from a 720 or hardbody, more costly in the long run but you also end up with disc brakes. You would also need to upgrade the brake mc.

Reverend D21 Thank You;
One thing I have learned from my association with the 67-72 Chevy truck forum has been to look to forums first when needing info on your vehicles. This 74 620 has been in my life since the day it was driven by my uncle from the west coast where he bought it new. It has always had the camper shell on it since it was new. I remember as a teenager riding in the back (never over 45 mph) on the way to jobsites where my uncle and Dad were carpenters. When my uncle passed on the truck was given to his son who parked it in his yard. The truck is super straight with just surface rust and 99.9% original. Right now I have aluminum wheels on it but I have the original wheels and center caps that are going back on it as soon as I can afford some tires. About all I have planned is to upgrade the suspension and install a 5 speed to get my rpm's down. I have grown particularly proud of this old truck so as soon as I can figure out how to post images, I will post some pictures.
