What does it prove if you car goes fast in a straight line? Nothing.

I've driven the civic SI sedan and I'll tell you that its a hell of a lot more fun to drive than the Altima. It lacks torque like any typical honda but omg...when I revved the sucker past 7000rpm, I found myself with a huge grin on my face.

Its much more nimble too. If you entered an Altima and a Civic SI in an auto cross, the civic SI would be the better car.

spike228, you have a very good point. The problem is that many people don't think like you. It's a shame, but lots of people just look at raw numbers (horsepower, torque, 0-60 times) and assume that higher is better. The less naive people know that this is not the case, and there's much more to a car than numbers.

I'm just tossing it out right now. The civic SI is built to be a fun little car to drive. The Altima is aimed more towards practicality. Not to say that the Altima isn't any fun to drive but its not something that you should compare a Civic SI to.

Having driven an Altima 2.5, 3.5 and the civic SI, here's my "fun points" ratings.

10 being the highest

Civic SI gets a 10Altima 3.5 gets an 8Altima 2.5 gets a 6.5

So there you go, thats based on my experience. I would recommend that you go and test drive all of the cars that you are considering before you make any decision final. Thats the best way to know what suits you best.

A Civic is still a Civic.

Two years from now, your new Civic SI will look just like every other Civic on the road (there are thousands) and will lose all appeal.

That's why I didn't get a Civic... it's Civic.

You obviously have never driven a Civic SI. Although its hard for most people to tell a civic SI apart from a regular civic, the SI is a totally different beast. I don't know how something like that could ever loose appeal. Unless of course the appearance of the car is all that matters to you.

well you're kind of right but i test drove the Si and i want really happy. i bet you if i raced an Si in a circiut with curves i would win, but it also depends on how good the other guy is, most si drivers are idiots and dont know how to drive on a track. i am pretty good driver in a curvey circuit race or in a straight line. agian i test drove the sedan, i am not a 2dr fan.

But you have to agree, that it is completely a conformist move to buy a Civic.

In Nor Cal, there are 3 cars on the road: Civic, Accord, and Mazda3.

I have only seen 2 or 3 other Altima Coupes around, and that makes me happy

Fair enough.

I'm not saying that I bought it for that reason; I bought an A/C because I fell in love with it during the test drive. All other reasons are secondary.

To each his own, and the A/C is definitely what I was looking for.

I think that you just aren't happy with the torque

I totally agree that its a bit disappointing off the line but its freakin awsome at high revs.

Can't please them all I guess.

really? i live in sacramento/elk grove and i hardly ever see the Mazda3. 75% of the cars on the road are civics and accords if not more lol i guess people over here like the A/C too cuz i've already seen at least 10, mostly at my college up the street. it's mostly girls with a 2.5s. not too many 3.5se tho.... but still no where near civics and accord, i don't know how Honda can produce so many!

oh and also about the 3.5se and the SI, put a suspension kit on the 3.5se and you're good to go lol the A/C already has no torque steer and it has a hell of a lot more power. in my opinion torque is what makes the car fun to drive, when i get in my friend's Mustang i have a huge smile on my face the whole time! even my brother's corvette (but his corvette is a auto so it feels slower and the mustang is faster... supercharged with a bunch of other stuff). nothing like that torque throwing you back in your seat..... sorta why i wanted a V8, but i'm happy with my A/C.

in my opinion the 3.5se Altima Coupe is way better! i haven't driven the SI before but looks wise, the A/C is way better, performance wise it's way better, potential to make faster it has the VQ motor with no torque steer. i mean the only thing the SI might have is a little better on the corners but big deal, do a little suspension work on the altima coupe.... i mean the SI isn't the regular civic coupe, it's a sport tuned one. do a little work to the A/C suspension if you want that handling. overall the Altima coupe is a way better car, they're not even in the same class

its not bull at all, i remember a member on NC that poted his 1/4 slip and he got 0-60mph in 7.1 sec, manual mode hasn't been proven slower than normal mode, either manual mode is fast or the other person sucks at shifting. until we see vids of cvt manual mode vs cvt normal mode, you cant say anything.

well this is pretty interesting. I looked up roadfly's vid on the civic si sedan, and its a tiny bit heavier than the coupe SI, and they got it from 0-60 under 6.5 seconds. how fast will a cvt 2.5/3.5se coupe do.

well anyways back to the topic at hand, hope you make a purchase thats right for you.

I had traded an 06 Civic SI for my A/C 3.5 CVT and can tell you at least by the seat of the pants, in every real world situation, the A/C is/feels much faster. I miss the steering of the SI and the handling was better, but the A/C feels more substantial when you close the doors and in daily driving.

My SI was a good car, but it was more of a peppy teenager compared to the adult feeling Altima.
