Which do you prefer and why?

Compare 1988-1998; 1999-2003 (Ghosn)

Old Era
  • Styling is awesome
  • Turbos in Japan, None in US
  • Losing money in US
  • Losing money in Japan
  • High quality parts
  • NISMO only in Japan
  • Too many platforms
  • Cheap RWD Sport Compact car in lineup
  • Cult Enthusiasts (IE very little mainstream support in US during 1988-1998)

New Era (Ghosn)
  • Styling sucks
  • Killed the Skyline!
  • Killed Nissan Space program
  • No f*** turbos at all!
  • In the black in US
  • In the black in Japan
  • Platform Sharing saves money
  • Cheap materials
  • NISMO coming to US
  • Competitive Z Car
  • More Popular. (More current day Altimas, Sentras and Maximas on the road)

Maybe my dates aren't too correct. If there is a specific era before Ghosn tell me. If Ghosn didn't come till X day, tell me. Maybe my info isn't too correct, tell me then...

Are you referring to the 350Z here? If so, I'm not sure if you can exactly call it cheap. I suppose the rarely seen (at least by me) base model is fairly cheap, but you're still looking at something approaching $30K.

Anyway, I suppose I prefer the Nissan that isn't on the verge of financial disaster, so...New Era for me.

maybe they were talking rice rocket to literal...

I liked the old styling way way better, I guess it's good they're in the black now though, maybe they'll sneak in a new RWD car soon...

or maybe even an AWD to take on the rally cars

-styling is a opinion, some models look ALOT better than they did in the early 90's-they never killed the skyline, the V35 is the skyline/G35sedan-Nissan already uses a VQ30DETT in their racing GT-Rs, and a 3.5 liter version is probably what we will see in the new GTR.-platform sharing makes the cars cheaper for us

Other than that i pretty much agree with you.

Jspec:

Those bullets are my opinions if not facts, I believe we will not get the TTs in the GTR but rather the 350 V8 retuned and polished for 400 hp. From what I've heard, I'd rather have a VH45DER

I love the early 90's maxima, sentra and 240sx (not sure what the alty looks like)

I am not sure what they would look like today with similar traits. Imagine a SX hatchback?

The Skyline sucks now. R34 VspecII romps on the newer one. Maybe I should say they maimed the skyline. I don't like R34 styling much. The New Skyline (G35) styling is my only preferred new style. Maybe I should say they maimed the skyline.

it's not a real 350 then, much like chevy's now, they do that kinda like certain gun calibers will round up or down to have a more impressive name same goes for engines

ex: the .44 magnum's actual bullet diameter is .429, Clint Eastwood would've sounded funny saying .429 magnum wouldn't he?

late 80s and early to mid 90s was the best. . Nissan isn't the same, at all. . it's lost its identity.

I can appreciate the new stuff for what it is, however. . but it's very very difficult.

definitely old era nissan, i'd take the R33skyline or 240 over a 350Z or G35 any day. happy that nissan's gettin good buys with the new era, but defintely like old era, turbo owns.

Are yall forgetting the REAL old era Nissans? Like the 240Z or 2000 Roadster. Nissan should bring in something like the old 2000 Roadsters back. Could yall see a little 2seater Nissan sportster(other then the 350Z). I know i would buy some small, light, nimble and powerfull if i had the cash.

To me, old-era Nissan is bland 96 Maximas, bland 96 Sentras, bland trucks, bland everything, no Z cars, and maybe some nice specialty vehicles. Nissan tried too hard to be Toyota, and now its trying to be different and paying off.

I got mad props for the old fairlady roadsters, and 240z's. Let us not forget the 510 I mean come on I'd love a little 510. And the s12 was a wicked little car.

That's the crappy period between new era and cool era. . it's when Nissan was going under, and began cutting corners and making cheap s*hit. my mom's Altima is a POS. Feels so cheap. . compared with our S12 Stanza? THAT was a nice car.

:werd:It's the car that sold me on Nissan. . I learned to drive stick on that car. . It was a base XE model. . which meant 5 speed. . :D We installed a stereo, and cruise. . so it wasn't bad. . funny thing is. . it was nicer than our GXE Altima. (had nice cloth... pretty much the same as in the S14). .

After 215k miles, the cloth still looked BRAND NEW.
