I think each era had it's share of great cars. But Nissan is gotten it's act together more than in the last year or two than it did throughout 80's and 90's. The 89 240sx, while a great attractive fun car, was poorly well marketed and given an underpowered motor. The Z got away from it's core market and ballooned in the 90's in both size and price to the point that sales plummeted. The Maxima, while a great car, was not particularly stylish or exciting, that is unless you like 3 standard issue 3 box design.
Leap forward to 2003. the 350z returns the original Z concept, small, good performance and handling value and not expensive. The Maxima has the same great performance/handling as before now in a contempory (and very attractive shape). The new Altima is a huge leap over the old one. The Quest has been improved, the Titan is coming out to good reviews. The Murano is one of the better "hybrid" suv's out there.
I think Nissan has never been as good as it is right now. And I see it improving.
