Hey guys, I'm about to pull the trigger on a deal that IMO is too good to pass. but I need some convincing still. what do you guys think about a 06 porsche CAYMAN S with 60K miles with Porsche Active suspention management (comfort and sport incabin adjustable suspension ), sport chrono (sport mode), NAV, 6spd manual for 26K$

always serviced at a porsche dealership btw.

midrear boxster engine layout with 300hp and rwd btw. anyone has experiences with porsches?

You're thinking of dropping the A/C? After all that work you've done to promote the aftermarket scene? I guess I'm ok with it, as that is a nice upgrade, IMO. How long has that cayman been on the market? Seems like a ridiculous deal. I would say 100% go, but I somehow feel like there's gotta be some problem for someone to sell seemingly that much below its value.

LOL! if I swap my A/C the HLSD will be bonus for who ever gets the car lol, it's too labor intensive to remove it . I would lose cash removing it. but all the rest would be on sale, meaning coilovers, bully dog tunner, ypipe, rear swaybar, short shift kit, razo knob, eibach springs, injen intake etc... lol

so yeah for the cayman S its a pretty much done deal, the seller almost walked out but looks like I'm going to get the car for that price! here's some pics :

only thing left is checking if there isn't any hidden surprise on the car, woudn't want that...

I would buy one of these over a new 370z or g37 any day. That is one hell of a car for that price.Pretty much a slightly less powerful 911 that can easily be tuned to surpass them.Love how they look to.

Then color me impressed!

The watercooled Porsches have had some teething issues (especially the early Boxsters), but I think that has been fixed by now. 500,000 is a big number no matter how well screwed together, though.

I love Cayman's. If I were buying a track car, that would be on my short list. But I would recommend having a good mechanic give it look over. Porsche's are expensive to repair, and just because he had all work done by a dealer is not a guarantee it was maintained/treated well.

But if he doesn't have a tow vehicle, that roof rack could hold track tires. I know a few Porsche owners that do that.

With the lack of space that rack is needed to carry anything!

So the owner sent me a copy of the porsche certificate of autenticity that lists all the car's specs plus optional equipments. ... and wow...this is a FULLY loaded model!.

check this out, it's got somthing called "sport chrono package PLUS". it's so balls awesome, bassicly it's like a system that works with the gps to store your lap times when you go arround a track!

"Lap or journey times can beviewed, stored and analysed usingthe performance display in PCM.The information available includestime elapsed and distance travelledon the current lap, as well asthe number of laps completedand their respective times. You canalso view the current fastest lapas well as the remaining range tillempty. Driving times can berecorded for any stretch of road, and benchmark times can bedefined."

here's a screen cap from the pdf brochure link I posted above

mcheddadi,

I work at a Porsche dealership handling the warranty claims and write service on the side. These are wonderful cars.... Mileage is not an issue with proper care. At that mileage the 60K major svc is due, Hopefully it was already done because it is a little pricey. Depending on labor rate and market, 1100 to 1500 at the dealer is a good estimate. 60k is inspection, spark plugs, oil+filter, belt, engine air filter, cabin filter. I can honestly say that 500,000 miles is not out of the question with routine maintenance.

A few tips on the car...you can gauge clutch wear (assuming stock components) by how high up in the clutch pedal travel the release point is. If you plan on driving the car aggressively or doing autocross events the factory range on the alignment can accommodate that pretty well without having to go to aftermarket/911 parts. If you want to stick with N-Spec tires(OEM) go for bridgestones cause they are the cheapest and an excellent tire. The engine issues with the detaching cylinder walls and all that stuff was fixed by 2002 so your good there. I have heard the GT3 throttle body really wakes up the response of the motor. The drivetrain/suspension(especially PASM) are really bulletproof. I really can't think of any other problems except some of the interior trim can be fragile and the soft touch finish is very finicky, they can be prone to rattles but thats nothing some adhesive felt tape can't fix. If you have any other questions give me a shout. Congrats!!!

Anthony

Gotta love Dealership rape!!!

Unless I'm way off, those parts shouldn't total to much more then $200. Maybe take a couple hours with a few beers, and that's only because of the belt.

You're way off, but as evidenced by most of your prior posts it won't matter what anyone says because no one can tell you anything you don't already know.

The supplies for the oil change alone are near the $100 mark, unless you can find 0w40 for less than $8/quart (I've seen it but not often).

Mcheddadi, the price tag is only the first part of owning a Porsche. If you're not willing to turn wrenches on your own you'll need to get used to opening your wallet.

Yeah, I bet you've worked on LOADS of modern Porches, right?

What a moron.
