hey thanks a lot about all that advice, I REALLY appreciate it!the guy told me It recently had it’s 60K mile service with a replacement of the starter motor and battery, so I should be good for any potential problems.AE240SX wrote:mcheddadi,
I work at a Porsche dealership handling the warranty claims and write service on the side. These are wonderful cars.... Mileage is not an issue with proper care. At that mileage the 60K major svc is due, Hopefully it was already done because it is a little pricey. Depending on labor rate and market, 1100 to 1500 at the dealer is a good estimate. 60k is inspection, spark plugs, oil+filter, belt, engine air filter, cabin filter. I can honestly say that 500,000 miles is not out of the question with routine maintenance.
A few tips on the car...you can gauge clutch wear (assuming stock components) by how high up in the clutch pedal travel the release point is. If you plan on driving the car aggressively or doing autocross events the factory range on the alignment can accommodate that pretty well without having to go to aftermarket/911 parts. If you want to stick with N-Spec tires(OEM) go for bridgestones cause they are the cheapest and an excellent tire. The engine issues with the detaching cylinder walls and all that stuff was fixed by 2002 so your good there. I have heard the GT3 throttle body really wakes up the response of the motor. The drivetrain/suspension(especially PASM) are really bulletproof. I really can't think of any other problems except some of the interior trim can be fragile and the soft touch finish is very finicky, they can be prone to rattles but thats nothing some adhesive felt tape can't fix. If you have any other questions give me a shout. Congrats!!!

It seems pretty straight forward.mcheddadi wrote:I never owned a midengined sportcar, do you know how accessible is the engine bay for oil changes and minor stuff?
I dunno, I think its the fact that the spokes are almost flat with the rim. It reminds me of Test Drive on PS1.PoorManQ45 wrote:
You're nuts. Those wheels are Sex!
I can definitely understand that.krash wrote:

See, it doesn't even really need a lip. If the spokes had a bit of a concave to them, kind of like the p45r, they would be perfect.PoorManQ45 wrote:

These days everyone wants the deep dish rim. I like the classy stock rims.
Common term used...AE240SX wrote:Ahem.......STEALership? I take offense to that. Not only because I work at one but we do NOT lie, cheat,or steal from ANY of our customers. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience but that does not allow you to assume everybody is like that.
OEM parts are made by someone else...AE240SX wrote:Our labor rate is 20 to 40 dollars an hour cheaper than most other "highline" stores in our area. The ball park assumes Porsche OEM parts which even I as cheap as I am would recommend for a car of this caliber.
Yes, IIRC they are 0.5mm signal wires... Just through them in there to pad the price.AE240SX wrote: Q45, I would give a thousand dollars to watch you find the spark plug wires as this is coil on plug ignition. The only time we have replaced wires is for actual damage to the wires, as in rodentia or the sort.
I don't think he was singling out Porsche, its just a generally accurate assumption that the dealer charges more than most shop charge, and more than what is actually involved. For example, oil changes, spark plugs etc, (not for Porsche specifically) are generally easy jobs. But, if you take them to the dealer, you'll get charged a lot.AE240SX wrote:Ahem.......STEALership? Congrats on the new acquisition. If you're interested in getting your car on the track earlier than May, There's a great HPDE with Audi on VIR's full course 4/19-20. Several PCA (porsche club) folks will be there. I'll be at both VIR and Carlisle.mcheddadi wrote:

Maybe it's just me, but I really like the look debadged. I did it to my altima because I think it looks clean, not because I'm trying to convince people I have a G. Personally, I like the look (debadged) on the cayman as well.etschell wrote:dont get me wrong its a sick car, but i cant imagine the service cost. lol at the debadge though, everyone knows its not a 911...
thanks!!Jesda wrote:Only $26k! Man, 2006 feels like only a year ago.

I'd associate it more to a Carrera GT (the other mid engined super car porsche makes, since the 911 is rear engined and doesn't have the same perfect balance) loletschell wrote: lol at the debadge though, everyone knows its not a 911...
I may put the badge back with a RED S after cayman but I do agree that shaven looks sexyAppleBonker wrote:
