Just totaling this up:

Plugs are $2.89 each, so 6 $17.34

If you do wires they're $180.79

OEM Belt is $36.95

Oil filter Wix 57211 $10.98

Oil Mobil 1 0w40 $6(Walmart) so 9 quarts $54

Air filter Wix 42859 $21.38

Cabin air filter Denso 4534000 $12.10 or 4544000 $30.79. Expensive one is a charcoal.

So parts cost a total of $152.75 to $352.23.

Maybe I underestimated labor time, but unless they require specialized tools, anything can be done yourself.

I work at a Porsche dealership handling the warranty claims and write service on the side. These are wonderful cars.... Mileage is not an issue with proper care. At that mileage the 60K major svc is due, Hopefully it was already done because it is a little pricey. Depending on labor rate and market, 1100 to 1500 at the dealer is a good estimate. 60k is inspection, spark plugs, oil+filter, belt, engine air filter, cabin filter. I can honestly say that 500,000 miles is not out of the question with routine maintenance.

A few tips on the car...you can gauge clutch wear (assuming stock components) by how high up in the clutch pedal travel the release point is. If you plan on driving the car aggressively or doing autocross events the factory range on the alignment can accommodate that pretty well without having to go to aftermarket/911 parts. If you want to stick with N-Spec tires(OEM) go for bridgestones cause they are the cheapest and an excellent tire. The engine issues with the detaching cylinder walls and all that stuff was fixed by 2002 so your good there. I have heard the GT3 throttle body really wakes up the response of the motor. The drivetrain/suspension(especially PASM) are really bulletproof. I really can't think of any other problems except some of the interior trim can be fragile and the soft touch finish is very finicky, they can be prone to rattles but thats nothing some adhesive felt tape can't fix. If you have any other questions give me a shout. Congrats!!!

Anthony
hey thanks a lot about all that advice, I REALLY appreciate it!the guy told me It recently had it’s 60K mile service with a replacement of the starter motor and battery, so I should be good for any potential problems.

I think the clutch should have lots of life left because he told me he never raced or modded the car and I'm thinking he's more of a highway/roadtrip driver kind of guy.

I never owned a midengined sportcar, do you know how accessible is the engine bay for oil changes and minor stuff?

It seems pretty straight forward.

Here is an excellent walk through

http://www.planet-9.com/cayman....html

Note: The interval with that size sump can safely exceed 10k miles

I recommend going to Napa for a Wix filter. Don't go to the stealership.

And Walmart for the Mobil 1, if that's the oil you choose.

I dunno, I think its the fact that the spokes are almost flat with the rim. It reminds me of Test Drive on PS1.

I can definitely understand that.

These days everyone wants the deep dish rim. I like the classy stock rims.

See, it doesn't even really need a lip. If the spokes had a bit of a concave to them, kind of like the p45r, they would be perfect.

Ahem.......STEALership? I take offense to that. Not only because I work at one but we do NOT lie, cheat,or steal from ANY of our customers. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience but that does not allow you to assume everybody is like that.

Our labor rate is 20 to 40 dollars an hour cheaper than most other "highline" stores in our area. The ball park assumes Porsche OEM parts which even I as cheap as I am would recommend for a car of this caliber.

Q45, I would give a thousand dollars to watch you find the spark plug wires as this is coil on plug ignition. The only time we have replaced wires is for actual damage to the wires, as in rodentia or the sort.

Mcheddadi, most everything is designed to be reached from under the car as far as oil etc goes. There are 2 access panels inside for the top and front of motor. Planet 9 or 6-speed online are great forums with lots of cool folks like us willing to help.

Common term used...

OEM parts are made by someone else...

Which part do you disagree with?

Yes, IIRC they are 0.5mm signal wires... Just through them in there to pad the price.

I don't think he was singling out Porsche, its just a generally accurate assumption that the dealer charges more than most shop charge, and more than what is actually involved. For example, oil changes, spark plugs etc, (not for Porsche specifically) are generally easy jobs. But, if you take them to the dealer, you'll get charged a lot.

ok guys I need help. anybody know a way for me to have my car towed or shipped or whatever from lasvegas to montreal or at least the canadian border above vermont?

it's a 2500 miles trip...

of course I'd pay but I just don't know where to look, I know only the train and they charge an arm and a leg for it and I'd rather not use their service as I heard some bad stuff about car in wagons...

anybody can help?

I had my Q shipped across the country on a truck when I bought it. Only took a couple of days. There are TONS of car-shipping options that can affect price. Open carrier, closed carrier, etc. I don't remember who I used for my car, though. It was a 1500 mile journey for the car, so not as long as yours. Just google "auto shipping" and start getting some quotes. That's basically what I did (and the reason I don't remember the name of the company).

I'm not sure about crossing the border, though...

Congrats on the new acquisition. If you're interested in getting your car on the track earlier than May, There's a great HPDE with Audi on VIR's full course 4/19-20. Several PCA (porsche club) folks will be there. I'll be at both VIR and Carlisle.

Maybe it's just me, but I really like the look debadged. I did it to my altima because I think it looks clean, not because I'm trying to convince people I have a G. Personally, I like the look (debadged) on the cayman as well.

I'd associate it more to a Carrera GT (the other mid engined super car porsche makes, since the 911 is rear engined and doesn't have the same perfect balance) lol
