I assume you meant double DIN!?! You are correct, a double DIN does not drop in without some modification to the dash. But it's not horrible to do, I have done many..... or maybe find a local car audio shop that is capable of custom work. Here is a pic of an example in your vehicle:
There are several reasons to go with a double DIN.
--It's cheaper, I don't know of any manufactures that make a single DIN motorized with navigation built-in. So for example with Alpine: Their double DIN iNA-W900 comes with navigation built in for the price of $1100 retail. Where as their single DIN motorized, the D106, retails for $1000 and doesn't have navigation. Then add in the price of the Alpine navigation unit which retails for $450, you are $350 more than the W900.
--On your generation of truck, the shifter hits the single DIN motorized units. So you would have to close the screen before you put it in park, or kind of push the screen slightly out of the way while you shift into park.
--The double W900 is a better unit than the D106 any day of the week. It will also accept direct plug in of the new Alpine backup camera... the HCE-C107D
The Alpine iNA-W900 is a wonderful piece. Much, much faster response than Pioneers, has the best iPod control on the market, better quality, easier to use etc. So I guess I would recommend molding your dash to accommodate a double DIN. You can find my pricing on the W900 on the first page..... $839 shipped. The backup camera would be another $199 which would also include the Alpine license plate frame to mount the camera. I can do a package deal of $999 shipped for everything.
Please let me know if you have anymore questions.
