I told my dad about the Versa Hatchback as an alternative to the Chevy HHR and we were impressed with how much room the Versa Hatch had in it! And also how good it drived and rode. Anyway now it seems the Versa isn't very reliable with people saying it has ignition problems and fuel pump problems. So can the Versa be a bad investement as I haven't heard of all the problems the Versa has had compared to the HHR.

My car is very reliable, 25,000 miles and over two years old. Has always started and always run fine. 30-34 mpg every fill up.

Thats awesome but I think the Versa is a good quality car and I like it more than the HHR partly because of the room and a better interior. But I don't want my dad to get a car that will be a money pit of problems.

No issues whatsoever here. I recommend the SL, benefits...

Some of us have put quite a few miles on ours with no problems, like me. My daughter had the fuel pump regulator problem, but it was quickly fixed under warranty and she's had no more problems since, with about 22,000 miles so far.

I think there are few ongoing problems which haven't been addressed under warranty, and those are the ones you'd expect to see someone mentioning in a forum. Check out an HHR forum and I'd guess you'll find complaints there, too. Me? I'd go with the Versa, obviously!

besides the fact that the HHR looks really really stupid, the Versa is a much better car. Only issue in 1 1/2 years is the fuel pump but that was fixed very quickly. Fred

PS: I rented a HHR one time and it really suc**d

I've got almost 30K miles on mine and not a single problem. It's had many good reports from the consumer reports type magazines and has a low cost of ownership compared to other cars in it's class. I'd choose the versa over many more expensive vehicle out there. Good luck!

Regardless of what dad chooses tell him not to finance - pay cash.Or hold on to what you already have until this storm blows over.

Car prices are in downward spiral the longer you save and hold off the better.

I'm pushing 52,500 miles after 26 months of ownership. So far, no real problems... really, nothing that wasn't my fault. I'd recommend this car to anyone based on my experiences.

Let say it this way....

Every single brand of cars isn't perfect. Even the legendary Civic or Corolla...

I would say most (at leat 95%) Japanese cars are at least 5X more reliable compare to the middle class to lower end American or European cars.

Yes, Versa have fuel pump, ignition, this & that problems, but.... so do a HHR. Chevy have way more problems than a Versa. Versa, you know what goes wrong, in another word, those problems are known;American cars, sometimes you don't even know what went wrong, it can be some idoit putting the wrong stuff, or improper installation to some faulty parts.

My 2008 1 year old Versa Hatch S has hit 10,000 miles with no problems.

I do wish I had went for the SL though....

Thats interesting it seems to me that the Versa is alot bigger inside than the HHR. So I would hate for my dad to get a car with less room inside.

I'm not sure how the Canadian market works - but why would paying cash offer an advantage when the car company is financing at 0% for 60 months?

I drove a Chevy Cobalt yesterday as a rental and it was the biggest peice of crap i've driven in a long time. Plastic everywhere, horrible interior design and it drives like it looks.

Why would anyone buy it...boggles the mind

when is a versa s a more costly vehicle? when it's an sl. i have the versa s hb and power doors locks mirrors at. i wish i had cruise but i am fine with that. watch for preowned deals at nissan dealerships. good value, no great markdown when driven off lot. the 1.6 versa is intriguing now that some of our members have turned their sedans into beautiful cars. the 1.6 's engine can be modified more than the 1.8 and the savings that you get for buying the 1.6 will allow you to buy some awesome rims and tires and that black grille you want to swap out. but other than that the style on the hb is better stock s or sl. it depends on whether you want to spend the couple thousand more for the creature comforts in the sl. i would say buy the 1.8 hb s unless you have 16- 18 grand. for that price you can buy an altima factory preowned and that car is the cats meow................

You say that, but what if someone doesn't really want the Altima? I mean, they're great cars, but my wife wanted an economical hatch, not a midsize sedan. So I bought her a loaded SL with the sport package.

A few posts on an online forum does not count as a scientifically meaningful poll. Independent reliability tracking site TrueDelta ranks the 2007 Versa as having above average reliability. The 2008's are below average thus far, but far fewer 2008s are reporting on the website than 2007s. But like others have mentioned, TSBs have already been issued on a few persistent issues, and it's under warranty anyway.

As for ours, we bought it in May 2007, and with just over 20k miles, it has been absolutely problem free. Lifetime gas mileage is 29.3 MPG, we've hauled things in it that would have never fit in a sedan, and rear seat occupants are always surprised by the roominess.

I'd highly recommend the Versa. Plus, do you really want to buy a car from a company about to file C11?

Usually they give you cash back discount. Ex. 20000 MSRP for the Versa. If you do a finance, you are lookin like 19000ish is the best which you can get

If you do 1 shot in cash, you can probably get about 15-20% discount. [the so call cash back deal]

That... involved with lots and lots and lots of stuff......1. Love & hate relationship (Even the president said so.....)2. [Don't quote me on that] someone said you got more tax refund from US cars...3. Generation to Generation's believe...

It's a complex problem, but... without those, big 3 probably gone like 10 yr ago
