I'm not sure how the Canadian market works - but why would paying cash offer an advantage when the car company is financing at 0% for 60 months?
Its the bigger picture - job loss/mass layoffs. U.S. banks are rumoured to be insolvent - creditors may collapse.

Lol. I don't know if it looks girly, but I am a girl and own the Versa. But I love it. I got the sport package added on and I think it adds a nice touch to the car. Plus I've had my windows tinted too.

Here is a picture of my Versa, taken in the summer of 2008.

I wouldn't say that it looks girly, I'd say it looks more functional with the design centered on functionality rather than cosmetics. That way we get the roominess and VERSAtility we purchased it for. The versa was my choice or dream vehicle for what I wanted and coming from a history of Full sized Fords, Chevs and Dodges it was a real breakaway from my usual choices. My wife just purchased her dream vehicle a Jeep Cherokee and she loves it for what it is, as I really enjoy my V for what it is. It could be an age thing perhaps but at this stage in our lives we don't purchase a vehicle for status but rather the way it makes us feel when we drive it. If it excites you for whatever reason and brings a smile to your face when you are driving it, it is the vehicle for you. Well the V does it for me, and the Cherokee does it for my wife,(Although we did come dangerously close to getting her a V!)

To sum up my ramblings, I find the Versa SL to be a very reliable, and quality vehicle. I have had no build or design related issues thus far at 18,000 kms and am still as happy with my choice today as the day O drove it off the dealers lot.

hey bunny your v looks great ...............will again in the spring hang on. i think the v will be a car cult classic with the ability to make it look macho or feminine. this won't be like the miata or new beetle. it will fall into place with the coopers and civics and mazda 3's etc. when i get rims and tires and tint and rear spoiler and nismo decals.....................you get the picture. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

LOL, your's is very very normal compare to some of those girl's car which I know...

The most girly one which I had seen is a set Hello Kitty seat cover + a fury steering cover, at least 15 bubble head on the dashboard + another 10-15 toys on there, and... a few LED light stick which will keep flashing & changing color base on the music

08 Versa SL HB, loaded and no problems yet. Just be careful putting air in the tires. Thos TPMS valve stems are aluminum and cost about $120 each.

Really? Wow. That is expensive. Were your tires filled with nitrogen? Mine are, and I haven't had to fill them once, and I've had the car since April 2008.

And aricbeemer I'm 23 in a few weeks.

Ciao!

Rockhound wrote:A few posts on an online forum does not count as a scientifically meaningful poll. Independent reliability tracking site TrueDelta ranks the 2007 Versa as having above average reliability. The 2008's are below average thus far, but far fewer 2008s are reporting on the website than 2007s. But like others have mentioned, TSBs have already been issued on a few persistent issues, and it's under warranty anyway.
Actually, in the current results both the 2007 and 2008 are average. The 2008 does have a higher repair rate. But a year ago the 2007's repair rate was quite a bit higher than it is now.

We have good sample sizes for both years, though that for the 2007 is larger.

My interpretation: these cars can have some teething problems in their first year, but after these are taken care of additional problems are less likely to pop up.

The survey results page for the Versa:

Nissan Versa reliability comparisons

You can also see which problems people report, here:

Nissan Versa repair histories

American cars are far from 5x worse. Differences are much smaller than that. The Cobalt and HHR both tend to also have average repair rates. The 2008 HHR is even "better than average" so far. They might do worse than the Versa when they're 4+ years old, but there's no way to know this yet.

I'm a nissan technician and bought my wife an 08 versa sl cvt for our family car

so far, 15k miles and no problems

I've seen fuel pressure regulator problems, but not in a while, i've not had any problems with ours yet

the only major problem i've seen with a versa so far is a customer that had'nt changed her oil in 30k miles

which would kill any car

Ok what was her excuse for not changing the oil that long?

HA! That's insane. When I was in High School I had a friend who had a '90 Honda Civic hatchback. He came down to my house while I was changing my oil and said to himself..."hmmm...I need to change my oil. I haven't had it changed yet." I dropped my wrench when he said that. He had had the car for 14 months. After I was done with mine I popped his car up on the racks and when we drained the oil is was a thick goo like molasses that just kind of slumped out of the oil pan. It was horrible.

I have a co-worker who drives a 2003 Saturn Vue. He hasn't changed his oil in nearly 15,000 miles. He claims he can't afford it... apparently GM sells their engines for less than the cost of an oil change (maybe they sell their engines by the six-pack. It is a GM afterall...) Stories like this are not uncommon. Many people seriously do not believe in oil changes... they simply top them off when the oil light comes on.

I have a cousin who never changed the oil in his 1991 VW Jetta. He would drive for months, never change the oil, and then top it off when the oil light comes on. He did this for nearly 40,000 miles, and once drove the car from Rhode Island to NH without any oil visible on the dipstick. The car finally died when he was driving home drunk and rear-ended an SUV.

Man, I have stories about this car... he drove like a maniac. One of his favorite pastimes was racing up and down i495 at over 100 mph. Without oil. On many occasions he would intentionally redline the engine while sitting in his driveway simply to watch the smoke pour out the exhaust. This car was typically filled to the seat cushion level with empty food packages, clothes, and cigarette cartons. You could always hear him coming from a mile away, since he had a "custom" "free-flow" exhaust... or no exhaust at all, I forget which. The car was pushing 170,000 miles when it was finally demolished.

Personally, I change my oil faithfully, every 3,000 miles. I want my car to at least carry me to my funeral, in another 60 years or so. For what I paid for that tin can on wheels, I better be buried in it.

A tin can? How can you say the Versa is a tin can? But that guy needs his head examined as how hard is it to get your cars oil changed?
