I'm looking for a failsafe thermostat for a 2000 Maxima. All my quickly-done research shows that they don't exist (at least from Nismo) for anything newer than a 94 model.

Hopefully someone here can prove me wrong. Go!

Thanks!

That's because it comes as entire assembly. It comes as the t-stat and housing, not individually.

A failsafe thermostat is one that is double spring loaded, so that in the event the normal thermostatic spring fails, the thermostat will open up all the way. This prevents the car from overheating.

In my experience, thermostats generally fail in the open position. It is very rare for them to stick shut, and because they are such an easy part to replace on most vehicles, Ive never worried about installing a failsafe.
