Hi just wanted to say this site is the best and thank you for all the help in the past.

Ok that being said my cousin's 1990 240sx SOHC is a mystery right now, about three weeks ago he was on the highway (287 in NJ) when his muffler broke off due to age and it being rotted on his way home from college. he said he soon thereafter experienced a "loss of power" and he pulled over where he thought it was safe from other vehicles. so he calls me and I get there sure enough it was hard to start and would not stay on unless the the pedal was press down but if you gave it too much gas it would act like it wanted to stall. we somehow drive it home since it was not too far and we could not afford a tow. the next day we had the muffler installed that we had bought to replace the rotted one a couple of days before but it still drove really bad. I've searched this site for answers and started by checking the firing order then the cables there was spark the plugs looked ok. then i moved on to swap the MAF sensor ( I own A 90 240sx as well ) and then the sensor that is connected to the throttle body not sure what it is called and also the tempereature sensor on top of the engine with no luck still has same problem. then I took the hose that comes from the fuel filter to check to see if the fuel pump primes and it does however I don't have a fuel preassure gauge. a friend of mine took the plugs out and said it looked like the rear two seemed wet so I went on to check the injectors and replace them with the ones on my car. and finally I swapped ECM's and now it doesn't even want to start I have no clue what is wrong with it; it was running before I checked the codes and in his original ECU it was code 55 which means it is ok and on mine it gives a 13 which is why i change the temp sensor. my friend said it seems the two injectors on the rear seem like they are not getting signal maybe the harness. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

this may be a long shot, but unbolt the converter and start it up(*edit* after you put his computer back in etc.). it may have been getting clogged.
also, get a meter and make sure the injectors are functioning properly.
did the car smoke or knock or vibrate harder during this problem?

it definitely shakes and vibrates a lot harder and there was some black smoke no knocking that i could tell.
wish I had the money for a swap and knew how to do it. but even if I did do a swap I still would like to know what went wrong with it.

Get a multimeter and see if the injectors are getting the right signal. Or start it up and unplug the injectors one at a time and see if the idle stays the same or not.

Sounds like injectors though. I had a friend who got a vert that shook pretty bad and he swapped two injectors and it idled fine after that.

You look at the spark plugs yet?

Make sure your vacuum lines are all still good.

You don't need a swap, KA24e aren't difficult to source parts for. They handle boost just as good as the DOHC.

Just keep trouble shooting til it runs like a champ. If its over 120,000 miles. Start looking for OEM timing kit parts and oem water pump.

Might get the injectors cleaned and tested.

Check signal to the injectors, and use a screwdriver pressed to your ear to see if the injectors are clicking on and off.

Unbolt the exhaust to see if it is restricted.

If you can get it running again, check engine vacuum.

sorry I took so long to reply but I really really appreciate you guys (breadbox, flat blackIon)
I was just frustrated and started summer classes so I walkes away for a little bit it seems like the the injectors are ok but the rear two seem to not get the right signal from the harness??? tried taking the converter off but it is soooo rusted and I really don't want to have to buy a new one lol. times like these I wish I had a garage. by the way Flat I was reading your build a while ago and was hooked until the last post then I forgot your screen name and could not find it, it was an awesome build have to finish reading it when I get the car running thank you once again for all your help, before this the most I could do on my own was change the oil.

You don't HAVE to get a new cat, but get new hardware. You might break the bolts that are there now.

Do this if it is clogged. then you can get a Cat later. Mind you I killed a perfect cat in that write up, so yours shouldn't be that clean if its messed up.
