so i got a 89 240sx

i was driving home from the junkyard and the car just died in middle of freeway. i was doing 65-70mph. i was in 3rd going into 4th passing a truck up. at first i thought it was the speed cut off on 4th but the car just kept slowing down and then it died!

OK.. i checked the all fuses....goodall relayes(sp?)...good i checked for codes and i got 13? my ? is would this stop the car from starting?fuel pump is good.i did all tune up already.the timing chain is still good! (thank god!)but what i did notice is that i'm not getting spark from the coil and in the dis....but they are good. the spark plugs are wet. read on some post about egi relay. he had the same problem. but mine seems to be fine....so HELP!!!!! :help

got a new problem. but just need confirmation. i was dbl checking everything. i dropped a half round rubber piece seal inbetween the timing chain and down. so where does that lead to? does that lead to the oil pan.

yea oil pan is where it ended up. It would be a good idea to get it out but I dont THINK it will hurt anything unless it gets tossed up in the piston area. get a light and make sure it didnt get stuck somewhere on the way down. if it gets inbetween the chain and other components could be bad news. you may have a bad transistor[ig module] in your ignition system. you either need to hang one on and check it or use a meter to moniter its activity and signal to the ecm.

BTW that code is for the coolant temp sensor. 2 wire connector near the front of the itake manifold.

no it will not stop the car from starting it will only cause it to run extreamly rich. This however may make it flood out.

i had a problem like this on highway in my 89..if ur car is a manual transmission..the problem on my car was on the clutch pedal..there is a clip or something that holds these too pieces together..its like a sensor something for the clutch..anyways..that piece broke on my car and it killed the car...wouldnt start or anything..i simply put a bolt and nut through the two pieces holding them together...and it started right up...a simple check on that and might be a simple asnwer but might be soemthing different on ur car...good luck

when you turn the key if all you hear is a click, then its your starter, if the engine cranks but doesnt turn over it might be the alternator.. if the car died while you were driving it probably is not the starter and could be the alt.

does it crank or nothing at all??

absolutly not. although an altenator can but when that happens the car wont crank over after it dies.you would have to use jumper cables to jump it and as soon as you pulled the cables off it would die again. you need a volt meter to start probing wires and find whats getting signal and what isnt.

it cranks and bit of back fire. it seems it wants to start but can't i can't get no spark going at all and i replace the coil w/ msd blaster 2 and change the ignition module. twice...

super stump here. i might end up towing it to a shop..$$$$$$$$$$ not happy about it too...

if its the alternator..the car wont die right away..it will run off the battery until the battery dies..so check the battery
