So, as the title says, my current form of transportation won't exactly be transporting me anymore. Bunch of things crapped out one my while I was on the highway yesterday and the cost of repairing it out-weighs the value of the car, so it's basically shot. And that brings me here...

I really need a new car, and have found a few that sound pretty awesome, but I can't decide which one. I'd like to see what you guys all think about these cars, give some opinions, and maybe even other options. Keep in mind that it must be >$7500, manual, RWD, and in CA...

1991 Toyota Supra Turbo - http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/41244160.html 161k with 60k on OEM Toyota replacement motor, nice mods (HKS, Blitz, etc.), and just one look at that engine bay = $6,500 firm

1989 240sx SE - http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/41444797.html 179k miles (too much?), nice suspension mods, nice body / paint, and anyone know what size piping is in the Greddy SP? $6,500

1971 Datsun 240z - http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/41207513.html clean, almost fully restored, (still needs some interior things), second CA owner, basically rust-free, cracked dash $5,900

1995 240sx SE - http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....80835 142k miles, awesome suspension / brake mods, a few dents in roof, and it has been drifted like mad $7,000 obo

So! What should it be? Any input is appreciated...

Wow, those are a lot of high mileage cars with owners asking way too much for it. I'd definitely rule out any car that's been drifted--that's stuff just waiting to fall apart. The Supra turbo sounds like the best bet because of the recent engine replacement, but it's been modded so be careful, Supras have the infamous headgasket issue. I think the other ones are either: a. too old b. or too old, too many miles, and possibly driven into the ground.

Supra Looks nice.RHS13, waste of money/ waaaaay overpriced. If it was about 3800, might be reasonable. Even then, thats too much.240z seems goodS14, no.Just some quick input out of a quick run through of the cars.

The Supra is sweet and is probably reliable enough to be a good daily driver. The S13 is clean, but that's quite a few miles for that price tag. I love the Z (probably what I would go for), but I would try to talk him down a bit since it still needs some interior restoration. Just make sure it really is rust free before you hand over your cash. The S14 looks good, but it's been beat for sure. You never know what other people have done to their cars, how well they've taken care of them, but when you know it's been drifted or raced alot, you know things will break sooner. I would go with the Z of the Supra, both beautiful cars.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, I'm currently leaning more towards the Supra, because it seems the more reliable of the bunch. He sent me some more pictures / info and the only thing I don't really like about it are the few stickers on the car. Of course, those are easily removed...

As for the Z, it does look awesome. If you look at the pics here: http://www.eandsweb.com/datsun/ you can see that he almost covered the whole car. I'm pretty sure I could get a lower price, becuase he doesn't seem toe set on the $5900. But how much should I offer?

Oh, and I forgot to add this one:

1990 Mazda Miata - http://www.craigslist.org/pen/car/40632338.html 16k miles?!? It's practically new! Would like a more practical car, but it is a fun reliable car. $6,500

I agree with what everyone else has said: all those cars are totally overpriced, but the supra looks the best. I wouldn't even consider any of the others unless they were less than half their current price. Look around some more, there are better deals to be had.

Get the Z. With the cash left over you can drop in an LT1.

Mmmmm. The rake of the windshield and the way the top drops away...reminiscent of the G35 coupe, isn't it?

So, I've definetly lost intrest in both the S14 and the S13. Still looking at the Supra, Z, and the Miata. Although the Miata will probably soon drop off the list, because I really do need a more practical car.

With that said, can someone point me in the direction of some newer (+96), reliable cars that can be had for under $8k? I guess I could live with FWD too...

MAXIMAAAAA!!!!

96 Maxima SE$4500-6500 for the car$1500 for the power$600-800 for suspension

And you'll have a low 14 to high/mid 13 sec(13 with nitrous 1/4 and it'll handle.

Go for it. You know you need 4 doors. Plus we cant have members just leaving the team all willy nilly.

Actually, I really would like a sedan because I am constantly hauling friends, females, and the like. Which almost requires four-doors. Now, is the SE the "top-of-the-line" Maxima? I keep seeing this GXE and GLE whatnot. And there all autos! Arghh!

(edit): Oh, and my dad already has a Tacoma. Nice trucks and all, but I'm just not really into trucks...

Ok, thanks. I was checking the edmunds site and the GLE's are only available with an automatic. I guess I'll look for some SE models in my area. So far, no luck...

Go for the Z! Heck with practical! I get to see and ride in really nice 240z's from time to time and they are super fun. There are so many things you can do with them as well.

Stick with a Nissan/Infiniti. There are several of them out there for that price.

96-98 Sentra/200SX SE-R98-99 Sentra SE-L00-01 Sentra SE (w/ pp= LSD, handles with a WRX, couple mods and it'll be survivably quick too... SR20DE(?T? )=mmm...)

Think of it this way- quick and fun without sacrificing a usable backseat (ahem ) and trunk.

96 Maxima, like freak said.

edit: This green winky-face **** sucks. It looks sick.

It's not the most practical choice, but I vote for the Z. I'd have someone look at the supposed small bit of rust on the fender (what looks like a little can often just be the tip of the iceberg).

It's not super practical, it's not really fast, but it's just damn cool. 150hp/148 ft lbs of torque with a curb weight of only 2355lbs sounds good to me.

Do you work on your own cars?
