carkook is right the head may have many more holes. the head gasket will have part that is blocked off and would only allow certain hole for coolant to past through. as long as all the head bolt are lined up you ok. and if am not mistaken you CAN'T reuse a head gasket. once it is crushed you will need to replace it. just don't forget. put extra rtv on where the head gasket meat the block at the front cover. that sound like the spot you said the leak was coming from.

carkook wrote:No the headgasket does not have as many holes as the block, its just the way its designed. And if you drained your oil and there was no coolant in your oil the headgasket is FINE. This sounds like an external leak somewhere and its just running down your engine. You said you replaced a bunch of hoses my bet is that you didnt tighten one up all the way or something.
Your 2nd statement is incorrect... I've seen engines with bad head gaskets never get coolant into the oil...

pyroniak is correct you can have a bad head gasket with out coolant mixing into the oil. i may have leak on to the outside. not all head gasket leak mix oil.

Yes you guys are right, thats in a general statement. OBVIOUSLY you can have a bad headgasket with out coolant getting into your oil.

But in this case, he has an external leak of coolant. There are NO coolant passages where the headgasket is located that would cause a leak where he has a leak(Near the oil pan). So the leaking is not from the headgasket.

Come on now use your brain smart a**.

Missed that part, sound more like the intake manifold gasket where the coolant runs from the head into the manifold.

Did you have a previous bad timing chain? If the timing chain goes without being changed, it will wear a hole in the water port of the timing cover. Try taking the timing cover off and look to see if theres a hole in the water port. You should see rub marks on the inside-left of the cover.
