After owning 3 different Acura coupes, and 2 different Honda Accords, I finally decided to start looking at the Infiniti G35... From what I have seen so far, I really am starting to like this car.. I have my first test drive in the morning, and am really looking forward to it...

I know this is a biased audience (just a little) , but with the prices of both cars being very comparable, is there anything that really stands out on the G35 that someone that has ownded an Acura coupe might be able to give me some advice on, or anything I should know, that would make the G35 the obvious decision ??

Thanks in advance !Druggist

Rear wheel drive! I'll see if I can dig up another thread that was very similiar. But, the real selling point will be you driving the TL and the G back to back! That's what convinced my wife who was sold on the TL. We were ready to pull the trigger on a slightly used TL at the Infiniti dealership. She drove both back to back and picked the G.

Oh, btw, I was already SOLD on the G, but the wifie picks her own ride. She doesn't steer a car she drives it!

Welcome to Nico!!!

Here's a couple threads you might want to read..zerothread?id=222138

zerothread?id=215328

There have been several G owners that came from TL's and said they were disappointed with how the interior held up.

Also, use the SEARCH button to find some TL treads.

Do you wonder if sometimes the car is the one in control?

Of course we are all going to tell you to get the G35, we all are in love.

Honda does make reliable vehicles, but I bet after you drive it you'll find that Nissan makes a FUN car, which is also very reliable. G35 is the best bang for your money in the class, bar none.

Rear wheel drive or Wrong wheel drive...

I have to say go with the G. You won't be disapointed. It has better power, better response, and is way more stylish.

Plus you are asking G35 or Acura in the G35 forum. ALL your responses will be G35, other than Bob's. He may say Acura, just to ruffle feathers...

welcome to NICO

I went thru the same routine in late 2005. I bounced back & forth between Acura and Infiniti for a month visiting almost a dozen dealers. The wife wanted the G35X automatic. Boy was she pissed when I came home with the 6 speed. She wouldn't drive it for the first month which was fine with me. I do let her pick the shower curtains and bedspread colors.

Finally chose the G35 on 12/31/05 around noontime.

The G was more comfortableThe G was rear wheel driveThe G had Sirius radio.

The Acura had caller ID display on the dashboard on incoming calls on bluetooth

Price was about the same.

Good luck

I sold my TL A-Spec 5 months ago fro my 2008 G35S. The stock TL was too soft and once I added the A-Spec package it was too harsh. The G35S is faster and I prefer it both from a cruising and sporting perspective. Also, the G35 is rear or all wheel drive.

The things I miss from the TL:Slightly bigger car, TL's Nav system is better, turn markers on the rear side mirrors, the side mirrors tilt down when in reverse, the car told you when it needed service, MUCH better dealerships and servicing. If I had it to do all over again I would get the G35S X or I would wait for the 2009 M37S.

Welcome to NICO

I have a G35s 07...and Love the car.

My friend recently got an 08 TL type-S...Beautiful car!!!But - it is getting redesigned in 09 - few months, it will be released with AWD and higher horsepower. So - this is a negative you must consider.

And yes, it is FWD - which is not as fun as RWD - but it has limited slip on the Type-S and works well --- plus - "Can BE safer" - in wet/colder weather.

emm... tough choice actually.

But I'd go for the G myself [biased] cuz i have one....My only complaint about this car is that it has "bad" fuel economy compared with other cars in its class.

The TL-type-S definitely has better fuel economy - which may be a consideration for some. ... ... better by approx. 10-15%.

Anyways, Good luck - fine choice on either vehicle!

Just don't go to the dark side: aka BMW -C r A pp*

sd, welcome to NICO. You'll have answered your question by the time the drive is over tomorrow. I looked at the Acuras one time, but I never went back because a friend used to be a service writer for an Acura dealer and he kept telling me stories about Acura's and why he didn't like them. Apparently they had a few problems with their AT's and that was enough for me. I'm sure they have resolved it by now so if you're going new it probably wouldn't apply.

Acura's interior is a step above the G and has a slightly more refined interior. Exterior, just like everyone says, thats personal preference. Personally, I like the old G's exterior better than the new styling.

As for driving experience, the new G has more response and hp than both the TL & TL-S. Depending on how you drive the car, if you drive it timid you won't notice much between the FWD & RWD difference like everyone makes such a big deal about. But if you like to get on it thats where you will significantly notice the difference.

I still have no idea why the new G gets such horrible gas mileage especially when it is direct injection which is suppose to help mileage. The TL will definitely get significantly better mileage overall.

So if I had to pick, I would end up getting the Cadillac CTS AWD. Hope that helps.

Those AT were from 2000-2003 and it was an oil jet fix that was causing a problem between 2nd & 3rd gear. Unfortunately, I know all to much about this but it was fixed under warranty without a penny from my pocket.

Both cars are reliable, but you always have to give the slight edge to Honda even though Nissan is right up there. So it pretty much is not a factor when determining which car to buy.

I had an 01 TL. The problem was that the transmission liked to go from 5th to 1st, sending the car into a spin. Acura/Honda extended the warranty on the car to 100,000 miles for the transmission. Thats why their value tanks as they approach that mark. The problem was that they replaced the faulty transmissions with rebuilt ones of the same design. Many owners went through upto 5 transmissions. it was sad. she is gone. Lola is here. All is good.

I wouldn't say G35 is a bettrt car than TL. But.. I looked at TL, 335i, and V36 and I bought my V36.

I would say these two cars are similar, yet different. Like everyone else is saying, G35 is RWD, which makes this car very much fun to drive. Nissan made this car to be a driver's car, and it truly is. As for Acura, it is a damn nice car, but I wouldn't call it a driver's car. It is some what sporty sedan.

Either way, hope you can find a car you love. We found ours, and that's why we are here!

I think they are both great cars. I agree with what most have said about the g. It is a drivers car, seems to want to be pushed. I also think it has better style but that is my opinion.

First of all, I would like to say THANK YOU to all the great posts that you left, regarding my first question...

Well, Test drive has been accomplished.

I drove a tricked out (electronics pkg) infinity G, and overall, I was totally blown away. I havn't looked at a new car for about 5 or so years now, and all the new things they have added just blew me away..Such as...The whole nav system (which... since I only drive out of town about 4-6 times a year, is a questionable need), the back up camera, the laser cruise control, the keyless entry system, voice recognition, etc etc...The car was very fun to drive, it sounded very "throaty" and very powerful.. The biggest thing I didnt like, compared to the Acura, or my current Honda Accord, is the door on the left hand side of my body, felt "close".. I am 6 foot, and 260lbs, and there was plenty of driver room infront, and to the right of me.. the drivers door just felt pushed in and close on that side.. Not sure if it was uncomfortably close, just felt very different.

So, overall, I really am leaning towards the infiniti.. Now, I have to decide 2door or 4...

So, the ? I would like to ask you next, is to comment on the nav/tech system, and let me know if you would pay the extra money, and still buy it again, after having and using for it for awhile...

Thanks again, for the warm welcome, and opinions !!Druggist

The paddle shifters are a DIY and $250 on ebay. Sounds like the nav will be a toy for you. Its the same for me, I rarely need it, but I still enjoy it just as much after 3 months of ownership.

Welcome again to Nicoclub Druggist!

I'm glad you're doing your homework on the comparison of the G to the Acura. I did the same comparison when i was shopping and it only took one trip to the Infiniti dealer to seal my impression on Infiniti. I was taken aback by the level of service, knowledge of the sales representative and the willingness to allow me to choose the vehichle that I wanted at my leisure. Service is big in my book... Not to mention, I drove the Acura and the G back to back and the G won in every category (for my book) hands down. Your kind of asking the primate house if they prefer bananas, so expect to get a vote for G everytime on this site!

If I had to go back on my options, I probably would have opted for the Nav and back up camera... but I'm a bells and whistles kind of guy... not for everyone though. I just wish they weren't so expensive.

The test drive alone should solidify your decision. Drive both the Sedan and the coupe and work out the details of which one fits you best. The decision between the 2 or the 4 door was a no brainer for me... the 4 door has more power, better options and in my opinion a better looking vehichle. Weigh your own needs as you won't be disappointed with any choice you make... WIN/WIN! Congratulations on your decision and keep us posted when you lock down a car. Glad to have you aboard and Good luck!

If you are a guy you also have to think about the girls. You are more likely to get laid in an infiniti then an acura(unless it is a NSX).

INMHO Go for the 6 speed manual sedan and skip the Navigation

Visit a few high end auto stereo shops that specialize in Mercedes, Infiniti, BMW installations etc. They can show you aftermaket Navigation that is cheaper & perhps better than the overpriced OEM ones. Ask if they have done any Infiniti's lately & check with those customers to see if they're happy.

Just my $.02
