This auction ends in 4 days but looks like it's alreay above what I've seen them sell for in the past.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...20647

I'd also check out http://www.car-part.com

I bought a spare on eBay once for about $15 shipped. Saw several a few months ago. I replaced the one on "Q1" with my spare after it became intermittant - but it was only a problem at very high ambient temperatures (97F+). If you want to use my old one as a loaner while you shop for a new one I'll be glad to ship it to you. You can just PayPal me for whatever shipping method you want me to use and then ship it back when you get your permanant replacement.

I gather you've swapped it out and this fixed your bad idle?

No, the dealership has ordered a new one (out of stock) and will try it.

I think they're barking up the wrong tree, but if they're not, I want to have a good one (since otherwise I'm looking at a $500+ repair bill (which I don't have until I'm re-employed:()

Doesn't the 1990-1993 use a different connector than the later ones? I thought the original connector design had been improved. Seems all the loose connector problems happen on the 1990-1993 models.

AZ do you still work @ the Infiniti dealership? Me and the wife are looking for a 2001 QX4, I almost had her convinced of a road trip to purchase from you, sorry if things didnt work out.

Dennis - I'm certainly not one to question the great guru, but I am showing a change in part numbers in 11/94... Is this a relevant change or am I OK with any 90-95 MAF?

1qck - I have a few 2001 QX4's available - All AZ cars, call me at 602-828-8908 if you're still looking. They're rolling out of here fast (2 per day for the past 3 days) so make it snappy.:D

Used QX's, used G20's and used I35's are almost sold before they hit the lot. Amazing.

Used G35's don't even register on the radar - They're sold before the owner even thinks of turning them in.... :D

QShip - I was laid off Sept 5 and have been unable to find something in my field of expertise since then - Am at infiniti of Scottsdale in the interim, but experiencing a $3K/month pay cut. Doesn't do wonders for the Christmas spirit...

11/94 wouldn't that be a 1996 model Q? Were not all the 94-95 made before then [11/94] since 94 came out early in 1993

Will have to look at the next 95 that comes in.

Won't Scottsdale sell you at cost as an employee? $260-$275.

Guess that would be too much for me since I can buy whole Q for $750..........unforunately all 6 MAF from our junkers have been used and I don't have a spare either.

I guess you don't have any G50s on the lot or in the service bay? I'd just swap it out with one that's in for service as a test... :D

Sounds like they're throwing parts at it now.

Dennis/Nick - My 95 was built 1/95.

I can get it for $325 from Joe... Wonder why I can't get it at cost? Perhaps Mr. Joe and I need to have a discussion about all the biz NICO has brought him.:D

We used to have several MAF's that they used as testers, but they've all mysteriously disappeared. I concur, Heath - I don't necessarily think the MAF is to blame here, as it improves as the coolant temp increases.

I think they're throwing parts at it as well - I'm inclined to suspect a vac leak or a bad plenum gasket, something of the sort.

I stand (or sit) corrected. :D

Nick

p.s. good luck on finding the problem, i agree...it's probably a vacuum leak of some sort.

Correction - My Q's build date was 5/95 (probably one of the last non-OBDII cars built by Infiniti.

I also just found that there are 2 diff MAF's - pre 11/94 and post 11/94. :( Hope I'm wrong... Dennis?

Now the service manager is thinking it's the coolant temp sensor since it takes so long to warm up. Hope he's right.

I'm a sad Hitman without my baby.

UPDATE:

Main guy here said, "Get that car fixed and outta here NOW!"

They replaced all the plenum gaskets (one of my early suggestions) and THINK it might be part of the issue. They also reset the idle as it was way off. I'll be driving it home tonight to see if it has the cold start shivers...The engine is too warm to tell right now. I'll have them do the temp sensor just in case, as it seems to take FOREVER to warm up.

If it's not better (I'm not optimistic), they're thinking MAF, #5 coil pack or a bad #5 plug.

I assume the t-stat is fairly new? Not warming up quickly is a sure sign of a t-stat stuck open or a bad rubber seal around the moving part of the t-stat... The car should start to show some movement in the needle within 3-4 minutes at idle in ambient temps. of 45F or so. (that's how long it took in my garage today)

Do both temp. sensors (ECU and Dash) agree on the warm-up when being read by consult?

I have a substitution circuit which I plug in to emulated the coolant temp sensor when cars come in that don't warm up to 176F................so I can test with Consult faster!Obviously this only works in the 155-175.9F actual range. With a 4-5k potentiometer you can vary the resistance and report any temperature you want the ecu to see.

Mine warms up and Consult consistently tests at 176.

Takes 4.75 minutes for the gauge to move from cold start and 7.5 minutes for it to reach 176 (no load, idling in 55 degree garage).

New plenum gaskets didn't do the trick.

Service Manager says #5 is DEAD. He's thinking perhaps a coil pack or a plug (easy to test).

Meanwhile, I'm rollin' in the rumblin', bumblin', stumblin' Q.

Talk to warrantybynet about dropping a brand-new VH in there. They'd go for it right? right!? :D

Hope your car gets fixed soon. At least have them give you an M45 as a loaner.

Nick :)
