thanks, I am thinking of doing it this week...infiniti_lineup wrote:Running the wire behind the console and over to the fob dock will add hours upon hours of labor to the installation process..
Do it if you want, but the glovebox or center console are both excellent locations and much easier!
Also, I got my DPDT switch from Radio Shack — they had an entire selection of different sizes and designs.
Yes, picture two from the how to post...SIK L wrote:So once spliced, both parking brake wires go to one side of the switch, and Nav wires go to the other side of the switch correct?
your PM are not turned on.SIK L wrote:I just tried doing this hack. I followed everything in the instructions and in either switch position the DVD isn't playing on the front monitor. The nav system still appears to be working normally.
Can anybody PM me their phone number and I can try to troubleshoot this with you? I would really appreciate it.
Any advice also would be appreciated. Thanks.
I thought it could be done this way, and posted asking about it on the original instructional post only to get responses from some guy that thought he knew everything about electricity and switches and clearly had no clue (with no one else chiming in), so I gave up and decided to try it myselff. I stil haven't done mine, though, so since you already did this, can you confirm that there are no problems caused by having the unit thing the parking brake is on 100% of the time? Are there any hidden benefits, or is it just easier because your switch selection benefits many times over and less wire needs run/spliced?06M4.5 wrote:I did it another way which was easier for me.
I cut the brake wire and grounded the wire that goes in to the Nav.
Then i cut the speed sensor wire and installed a regular switch between the 2 wires.
if you need help just PM me and I'll send you my #
Good thing you didn't ground the other side, my understanding is that would lead to the parking brake light being on all of the time (as opposed to when the brake is on).06M4.5 wrote:up to now I haven't seen any problems having only the unit with ground all the time.
I did not ground the other side of the wire which comes from the parking brake.
Has anyone tried the nav hack on a FX? My buddy just got one and we wanted to do it to his. I did the mod on my M but not sure if everything is the same behind the glove box/radio area.Anthony_FX35 wrote:you may have just boosted my confidence. btw...the DIY said for all 2008 M models. how about my 2009 FX35?FNAWSM wrote:Just do it yourself. Its not that hard. If you can follow directions and can remember how to put things back together once you take them apart, you will be just fine. There are some real nice write-ups on here and i plan on doing one myself real soon. It will take you 2 or 3 hours max and cost about $15 max.
I looked in that thread for topics on the Nav Hack, not luck. So I made a new post. Thanks
thanks for the tip, not sure why that was off. ever find a passenger mirror?FNAWSM wrote:^nope but you should enable your PM's incase people want to message you.

Can you provide a link where you purchased it??? Or the physical store/location??
There you go I figured someone would be smart enough to see the watermark and or check properties of the pic. And 110 plus shipping mine was 125. And yes much more then 15 but you don't have to cut wires splice anything. Just unplug navi dvd plug this harness in and plug the plug you just took out in to harness ground one wire.(I used stock location on kick panel) and your done. I plan on using a factory switch like another afs switch I think that's what its calledsunoco wrote:http://www.beatsonicusa.com/nav-dvd-byp ... odule.htmlSiMpLyMoDiFiEd wrote:

Seems to be "on sale" for $110.
Derrrrrr!! lol. Didn't even recognize the watermark until you mentioned it. I'm terrified of splicing wires or anything like that, so this is perfect. Thanks man!SiMpLyMoDiFiEd wrote:There you go I figured someone would be smart enough to see the watermark and or check properties of the pic.
No problem I will be setting up a plug n play for a stock switch soon and will post it up soonBronxBomber wrote:Derrrrrr!! lol. Didn't even recognize the watermark until you mentioned it.
