What is that part I keep seeing on some SR's that is right above the exhaust manifold near the back of the valve cover that kind of looks like a wastegate?

And why do I not have one on my S13?

Thanks

Are you talking about the tan diaphragm with the hose on it?

I'm not sure, I do know its not necessary, Ive never had one, I tossed it before putting my motor in. IIRC it has something to do with the factory boost control system.

no man, that the SR's AIV just like the one the ka has but mounted on the motor, It cant be installed in US cars without mods to the pipe that runs into the exaust, it needs to go where the steering shaft is, the bung is the one you have to plug up on the stock cast downpipe off the turbo. It lets air into the exhaust for the cat converter.

Yeah, the tan thing is what I was talking about.

So if I already have a turbo elbow with no bung, and no AIV assembly, it won't really have any negative effects?

T28 turbo elbows and aftermarket pipes usually eliminate that bung. If you have the former, you'll need to enlarge one of the bolt holes to get everything to mate up properly.
