i have 1991 Nissan Pathfinder. the last 2 mornings i've come out to my truck to find the tail and running lights mysteriously on by themselves... any suggestions for how to repair this problem? ty

 Could not find a headlamp switch for my 91 pathfinder, when i went to the auto parts place they said there isn't one listed for a 91 pathfinder (Nissan parts also confirmed this) Now, of course, after fussing around looking for the problem with my truck i have a new problem. Now my turn signal and my dash lights will come on only intermittantly. so i don't know if this is a new problem or the same problem...

I would start by looking at the headlight switch. It may be worn out. Remove the fuse for the parking lights and see if they shut off. If not, then you have a short somewhere. If they do, then its most likely the multifunction switch.

The switch was my first thought too. Chances are it's original, so after 20+ yrs of use, it would not be very surprising if it malfunctioned.
